Nike Golf athletes played well at the various pro tournaments on Thursday. At the Valero Texas Open Stephen Ames put up a 66 early to finish at -4. That was matched by David Duval’s 66 and they are both T8 after round 1. But the round of the day goes to Justin Leonard who shot a 63 and is tied for the lead at 7 under. Let’s see if he can keep it going through the weekend for the win.
The LPGA Tour stop is the Sybase Classic and Suzann Pettersen is T3 after shooting a 7 under 65. Michelle Wie is T13 with a 2 under 70 in round 1.
Nike staffers at the Nationwide Tour BMW Charity Pro-Am are bunched at -2 to +1 with the leaders at -9 after round 1. Let’s see if anyone can make a move up the leaderboard and be there at the finish on Sunday.
I’m a big Justin Leonard fan, but I’d love to see David Duval break through and win an event. He’s shown glimmers in the last year or so, and a win would do the world for his confidence and show he can do it again. Go David, we’re rooting for you.
I also hope to see Suzann Pettersen in the mix on Sunday. Was fun to see her in the mix at the J Golf at my home muni Papago back in March, even though she didn’t come away with the W.
