Editor’s Note: This week we’re introducing a new feature on the blog, the NG Nation Fantasy Four. I’m really excited to have NG Nation contributor Damian Daniels bringing this feature to you (Damian has written feature pieces for the blog before) — he will be giving you his take on 12 PGA Tour players to watch each week: four Nike athletes, and eight players from the field, four who are hot that week and four who have a strong playing history at that week’s tour event. From the 12 he will select The Final Four — his top four picks for the week including one Nike athlete and three players from the field. I hope you enjoy the Fantasy Four series!
I’ll outline my Nike Golf foursome, players that are hot, players that have good history at the course and then pick my final four.
I’ve been a fantasy golf enthusiast for the better part of four years now. I may not be an expert, but I, Damian Daniels, will do my best to drop some weekly fantasy knowledge for the benefit of all those that care to read. Let’s get started.
NIKE GOLF: FOUR TO WATCH
Stephen Ames – he’s had a very quiet year thus far, but a solid one. He’s only missed two cuts this year and has 4 Top 25’s. He’s also Canadian 🙂
Lucas Glover – G’Lover is coming around and he has some history at this tournament with a T7, T12 and T26 in the past few years.
Paul Casey – aside from a MC at the Masters, he’s all Top 10’s…but is he 100%? I look for him to bounce back with a solid chance at at Top 10.
Stewart Cink – he has the history here with a few wins here. I actually thought he’d do well at Augusta, and maybe a MC there will give him some extra fuel this week.
THE FIELD: FOUR WHO ARE HOT
KJ Choi – most people will be looking at KJ here, not missing a cut all year and have 7 Top 25’s. However, he’s never played this tournament before..so watch out.
Camilo Villegas – stastisically having a great year, quiet masters and a MC before, but he’s still a force and could do very well here.
JB Holmes – lot of Top 25’s, but I can’t trust him, personally. You need to have great irons at Harbour Town and that’s something JB doesn’t have.
Matt Kuchar – lots of great finishes this year and a T7 at Hilton Head two years ago.
THE FIELD: FOUR WHO HAVE HISTORY
Davis Love III – he loves Hilton Head and I remember picking him last year. He says he feels more relaxed than ever. I think he’s a stretch for a win, but he’s had a few bright spots this year and I think he’ll find another one.
Jim Furyk – So many Top 10’s here, I think he’s a lock for another one this week.
Brian Gay – Sure, he won last year, but he’s also had a T16 and a T9 in the past few years. I don’t think his game is where it needs to be this year, so I can’t trust him.
Kevin Na – MC last year, but 14 and 7 the years before..and he’s been very solid over the past year.
THE FINAL FOUR: Jim Furyk, Lucas Glover, Kevin Na, Matt Kuchar
I have a good feeling about Villegas and I think Love will bounce back too, but we’ll see how it all plays out. It should be a great week.
Pick with your heart,
