A Look at Collaborative Nike Golf Shoes: What Shoe Would You Like to See?

With the introduction of the Nike Golf Air Anthem and Air Rate golf shoes, Nike has reached deeper into the growing street-style golf shoe market.  But Nike, a company well known for its commitment to collaboration, has made a number of street-style golf shoes that were limited to the public. Here’s a look at some of them:

Nike Golf Dunk Low Skateboarding (SB) Dunk Golf Shoe
These shoes were made for a charity golf tournament hosted by the Skate Park of Tampa a few years ago in which the Nike SB Team participated.  The shoes were offered in two colors – black/black and brown/tan. Both feature a premium leather Dunk Low upper, and a golf mid-sole with stinger spikes on the bottom and a leather Nike SB patch.

Additionally, Nike SB made a non-spikes version of the sneaker – sort of an ode to the traditional golf shoe. The Nike Dunk Low SB Premium Brown Golf features an optional flap over the tongue with the Nike SB insignia.  While the spikeless sneaker might not be suitable for the course, it is constructed from premium leather.

Nike x Cole Haan Air Landon and Air Logan Golf Shoe
I really liked these shoes from Cole Haan, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Nike. Far from a street-style shoe, but too difficult to not include in this post, it’s widely known that Cole Haan makes great dress shoes for work. So it was only natural that they bring the high-class style and pair it with Nike technology to make a performance golf shoe. In fact, Cole Haan made two versions. The Air Landon and the Air Logan are difficult to find these days, but they both featured a longitudinal flex groove that allowed the foot to flex from side to side as long as possible without leaving the ground to further increase the power output on the swing. Both shoes also feature breathable waterproof calfskin leather shells, Nike Max cushioning and green-friendly arranged spikes.

What are some other collections you’d like to see Nike Golf make and release in the U.S.?

Here are some of my choices:

Nike Air Zoom Elite Japan Version
I’m no Gator fan but these are pretty unique. Plus they’re already made!

Nike Free 7.0
By far the most comfortable sneaker I’ve ever owned and a great summer time shoe.

Nike Air TW Trainer
Just a cool looking sneaker that I think would be great as a golf shoe.

NG Nation Fantasy Four: Valero Texas Open Recap

What a week at TPC San Antonio. I think everyone had good picks overall and it was a good second week in the NG Nation Fantasy Four Contest. Overall, I had some good predictions with Els, Holmes, Scott and Jacobsen. I really thought Justin Leonard and Zach Johnson would get Top 10′s this week, so that’s a stinger, but here’s where my fantasy four finished:

Zach Johnson – MC (0 pts)
Paul Goydos – MC (0 pts)
Justin Leonard – MDF (0 pts – doesn’t count as MC)
Fredrik Jacobsen – 2nd (5 + 2 pts)

I took a chance on Goydos instead of Adam Scott and look where it got me. It sure helped Meredith Wang, as she was the only one who had the winner.

We had 6 new entries to this Fantasy Four contest, while 4 people didn’t submit entries after doing so last week. Here are the point totals from The Valero Texas Open;

Meredith Wang had the winning team of Adam Scott, Ernie Els, David Duval and Zach Johnson.
Most people did well in having players make the cut and Bo Van Pelt just missed out on a Top 25.

Below are the full season standings.

Now we’ve got some points on the board. Let’s keep it up as we head to the HP Byron Nelson Classic.

Only two weeks left for this month of the fantasy contest, then a dozen Nike ONE Vapor balls will be given to the winner.

Stay tuned and tell your friends,

D

Who’s the Best-dressed Nike Golf Athlete?

Nike Golf has made some tremendous improvements this year with their global apparel, with a focus on performance-driven outerwear. With that said, which Nike Golf athlete wears his or her apparel best on tour? Here are some of my thoughts:

Simon Dyson

Often sporting colorful outfits on the European Tour, Simon Dyson’s black-on-black outfit at The Masters demonstrated that he could bring the respect and professionalism that is commanded at Augusta, along with style.

Nike Golf Europe’s Border Cardigan is my favorite piece this year and it showed how Nike Golf was ahead of the curve with bringing the latest fashion trends onto the course.

Additionally, Dyson sports the Border Slim Pant which replicates the tailored look ingrained in European attire.

Jamie Lovemark

Jamie’s character and profile fits Nike Golf apparel well. His southern California demeanor, coupled with his 6’4” height, allows Jamie to pull off anything well. I think Jamie is one of Nike’s best dressed athletes because he is one of the athletes who wore the Tiger Woods collection on tour, and because he changes up his style so frequently.

Since the tour started this year, Jamie has been seen in TW shirt, pants and shoes, in two tone Air Zoom Elite 2s, and in the new Nike Air Anthems. Jamie has also switched between the Victory Red visor and the Victory Red tour mesh cap.

Michelle Wie

It’s clear that Michelle Wie has a runway model frame, but the 20 year old gets my vote as one of Nike Golf’s best dressed athletes because of her fashion sense on and off the course. As an aspiring fashion designer, Michelle has pulled off some of the hottest looks on the LPGA tour, including this rugby polo. Whether in pants or skirt, she has combined the tailored look with playability, meaning in even the most form-fitting apparel she can pull off the shots she needs to succeed on tour.

NG Nation Fantasy Four: Valero Texas Open

This week is like a fresh start and could be very unpredictable. With the Fantasy Four Contest underway and a new course this week, history may not play a big factor. However, plenty of golfers just love the Texas swing on the PGA, even though the field isn’t filled with the big guns.  Let’s get Week 2 of the NG Nation Fantasy Four Contest underway.

If you’re new to the contest, read the details here >>

NIKE GOLF: Three to Watch

Justin Leonard
I’ll just get it out of the way; I think he’s going to win. He’s been very quiet this year and he’s a Texas boy through and through. He’s won this tournament three times and has had a lot of good finishes here, so I’m hoping for the best. Hopefully his new SQ Machspeed will help him dominate off the tee.

David Duval
Double D (not me) has had a decent year. The more he plays, the better he’s going to get, so he is a very big sleeper here.

Carl Petterson
Another quiet Nike golfer who has made six straight cuts. While he has no history at this event, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him near the top of the leaderboard.

THE FIELD: Four Who Are Hot

Frederik Jacobsen

Aside from a MC at Quail Hollow, his last four starts have ben T10 at the Players, T22, T22 and a T6. He’s playing well and had a T5 at this event last year while on a similar streak.

Ernie Els
He’s the big gun in the field this week and is looking to rebound from his first MC of the year. He’s still the money and points leader and is the favourite to win this week.

Adam Scott
I never thought I’d see Adam Scott on this list, but I have to give him some credit. He impressed me at the Players and (aside from a MC at Quail Hollow) had 6 straight made cuts with three Top 20′s in that stretch. I think he’ll keep it rolling this week.

Bo Van Pelt
Did anyone even know he finished T4 at the Players? Look at his last three starts: T3, 5th and T4. He’s playing as well as anyone right now and in a very quiet way. I think he’ll do great this week.

THE FIELD: Four Who Have History

Dean Wilson
While this will only be his fourth event this year, he has some history here. T6 in ’07, T2 in ’06, 7th in ’05, so you know he likes this tournament. He hasn’t been terrible this year, but maybe he’s injured. He’ll probably make the cut.

Zach Johnson
He’s played in it twice and he’s won it twice. He’s batting 1000 folks so he can adapt do a new course and we know he’s got the talent.

Paul Goydos
The old veteran has cleaned up at this event. He’s the Tim Clark of the Texas Open. T3 in ’09, T19 in ’08, T8 in ’06 and a bunch more. He’s just had some bad rounds this year that has kept him from high finishes.

Brian Gay  - WD

Chad Campbell is his replacement. Another Texas guy who has a T15 and T17 in his last few starts here. He’s looking to get back into form and he’d love to do it in Texas.

Final Four: Justin Leonard, Freddy Jacobsen, Paul Goydos and ZJ.

I think it’s a bit more of a toss-up this week. I wanted to take a chance on Adam Scott and Brian Gay here but I feel like I’m taking a chance on Goydos and Jacobsen. Everyone will be on Els, and he could bounce back strong, but I just don’t think he’ll win. Regardless, there are still plenty of choices to be made.

Leave us your fantasy four for this week below! Remember, you need 1 Nike Golfer and then you can pick anyone else. I didn’t mention Sergio, JB Holmes, Vijay and a bunch of other guys this week, but there’s plenty to pick from.

Pick with your heart and tell your friends,

D.

Nike Nuggets 5.10.10

  • Nike athlete Lucas Glover finished third at the Players Championship. Looking for more versatility, Glover added a Nike VR 21 degree hybrid to his bag. Along with the hybrid, Glover also added a 64 degree VR Wedge. These clubs replaced his Nike SQ II 19 degree 5 wood and his VR Split Cavity 3 iron.

  • Nike Athlete Francesco Molinari finished ninth at The Players Championship marking his best finish in the US. Molinari finished second in Greens in Regulation with his VR Split Cavity irons and Nike ONE Tour D ball. He finished T8 in driving accuracy  at 73 percent after adjusting his VR STR8-FIT Tour driver from 2 degrees open to 1 degree open and from neutral to 1 degree flat.

  • In the field this week at the Valero Texas Open on the PGA Tour are Nike athletes David Duval, Justin Leonard, Carl Pettersson

  • In the field this week at the Bell Micro LPGA Classic are Nike athletes Amanda Blumenherst, Suzann Pettersen, Michelle Wie

NG Nation Fantasy Four: The Players Recap

It was a very tough week Fantasy wise. Everyone was on Poulter and Casey, but forgot about Westwood. I say the first week was very good, but a lot of missed cuts. Good win for Tim Clark though, and a nice rebound by Nike Golfer Lucas “G’Lover” Glover.

Personally, my picks were pretty bad for the first week of the official contest, so I’ll do better in the tournaments to come.

However, I was correct about one thing: the winner AGAIN came from the Top 10 the year before.

Here’s where the NG Nation Fantasy Four stacked up:

Paul Casey – MC

Ian Poulter – MC

Tiger Woods – WD

Jim Furyk – 47

I should be ashamed. But that’s the beauty of the game. It’s unpredictable and a joy to watch. The Fantasy Four standings through the first week is below. Each week the leader(s) will be highlighted in red.

Wins Top 10′s Top 25′s MC’s Total Points
NG Nation 0 0 0 2 0
Alan N. 0 0 1 1 2
Lendell D. 0 0 1 1 2
Lisa A. 0 0 1 1 2
Apryl D. 0 0 1 1 2
no3putt 0 0 1 2 2
Matt D. 0 0 1 1 2
Courtney Z. 0 0 0 4 0

Tell your friends that it’s too late to join! It’s fun, free and who doesn’t want free Nike Golf stuff? I think I even convinced my Mother to join next week. So, it was a pretty good Mother’s Day for me.

Next week we travel to the Valero Texas Open and hope to get some Fantasy points on the board.

Stay tuned and tell your friends,

D.
