Some of the Best Staff Bags by Nike Golf

The Inspire Cink bag contest is currently underway and what better time to write a post about Nike Golf bags than now? In my opinion, the 2010 Victory Red tour staff bag is the Victory Red line’s best yet, but let’s take a look at some of my favorite Nike Golf staff bags:

Nike Golf Tour Bag 2nd JV | White/White

Not only does this bag stand out because of its all heavy white colorway, but it is one of the sleekest looking bags I have ever seen. This bag weighs 10 lbs. and has a 9.0 type top with 5 different club compartments.

Nike Golf Japan 2009 BG0210 Athletic Cart Caddie Cart Bag | Black/Black and White/Black

The all black look of this bag is really intimidating and the same pattern used on the Zoom Elite II shoe is accented on this bag. I can’t decide which one I like more, but I know that I like them both. 9.0 size, 47” and 10 lbs.

Nike Golf 2009 Victory Red Staff Bag Japan | Black/Red

There’s not much to dislike on this bag. Great use of colors, just the right touches of red and white and a really cool glow effect to the swoosh. 9.0 size, 47” and 7.7 lbs, plus more pockets than you need!

Nike Golf 2010 Classic Logo Bag | White, Black, Red, Navy

These bags pay homage to the original Nike logo and come in bold colorways but never depart from the feature and functionality that Nike Golf is known for. 8.5 size, 47”, and 6.8 lbs.

Fantasy Four: AT&T National

While a lot of the big names are missing this year, this is still Tiger’s tournament and there’s a lot to keep an eye on. While, Furyk and Woods are the main guys from the World Golf Rankings, Crane, Allenby and DJ are all here to dethrone this Nike Golf dominated event.

Interesting fact; ONLY NIKE GOLFERS HAVE WON THIS EVENT. KJ Choi won in ’07 (he was with Nike), AK in ’08 and Tiger in ’09. So, maybe it will happen again. However, there is one big change this year; this is no longer played at Congressional. We move to a new course, so maybe don’t put as much value on the history section, but that will focus on the tournament over the past three years.

This is Week 9 of the season tournament and the first week of Month 3 of the NG Nation Fantasy Four and it’s never too late to join. For a refresher on the rules, hit the link — Contest Guidelines and leave your Fantasy Four below.

NIKE GOLF: Four to Watch

Tiger Woods
This is the time for Tiger to win. It’s his event, the course only has two par fives and I really think he wants to play consistently. It’s his to lose and it’s time for him to prove something.

Lucas Glover
Glover has played well at this event, but we’ve been waiting for him to break through all year. He’s only had 2 Top 10′s all year, but I think the length of this course and it’s reliance on good long iron shots should help out G’Lover.

Carl Pettersson
Pettersson has been slowly quietly making cuts for the past 11 tournaments and he’s had a bunch of Top 30′s. He’s been proving he can pick up 2 points where other Nike golfers have missed the cut.

Matt Hill
This is Hill’s second official PGA start as a member and I know he’s excited to do well at Tiger’s event, similarly to AK (who is still injured). Hill and Woods are tied for most wins in a college season and with a less intimidating field than at Memorial, he should pick up a cheque this week.

THE FIELD: Four Who are Hot

Justin Rose
Recent starts –  T9 at Travelers, 1st at Memorial
His collapse was tough on him, but I think he’s strong enough to rebound this week and keep it together. T16 last year and T30 in ’07.

Ricky Barnes
Recent starts – T5 at Travelers, T27 at US Open, T3 at Memorial, T7 at Crowne Plaza
Well, he is hot so I’d give him a chance. I still don’t see him winning an event soon though. He’s inconsistent in his round and I think he stays in tournament by playing one good round.

Scott Verplank
Recent starts – T2 at Travelers, T47 at US Open, T5 at Crowne Plaza, T5 at Byron Nelson, T13 at The Players.
He’s hot and due for a win, I’d say. His game is all around tight and should be picking up a big cheque this week.

Alex Cejka
Recent starts – T3 at BMW International Open, T8 at US Open
I think it’s time for people to start considering him as a legitimate threat. His overseas travels in the past few weeks concerns me, but he’s finished so well in the past two weeks. Definitely worth a chance this week if you don’t think he’s tired.

THE FIELD: Four Who Have History

Jim Furyk
Recent finishes at this event – T7 in ’09, T3 in ’08, T3 in ’07
I think the only question about Furyk is can he win three events this year? I think so, but not this week. I see a Top 5, though.

Robert Allenby
Recent finishes at this event – MC in ’09, T3 in ’08, T6 in ’07
My concern with Allenby is his health. T29 at the US Open was encouraging, but I just hope he’s healthy, because he’s been great this year.

Hunter Mahan
Recent finishes at this event – 2 in ’09, T12 in ’08, T8 in ’07
I think everyone is just praying that Mahan shows up this week. I think a lot of people are discounting him, but Mahan is always money in the 2nd half of the season.

Ryan Moore
Recent finishes at this event – T11 in ’09, MC in ’08, T25 in ’07
Moore could have made the hot list, also. I know his history isn’t great, but I thought he deserved to be mentioned. He’s playing great golf right now with a T13 at Travelers and T5 at Memorial, along with a T33 at the US Open.

FINAL FOUR: Jim Furyk, Sean O’Hair, Hunter Mahan and Tiger Woods.

I’m taking a chance on Mahan again after 4 straight missed cuts. He’s playing decent in the CVS event with Petterssen, so that’s a glimmer of hope. I didn’t have room for Rickie Fowler on the hot list, but he’s up there, too. Other big names this week are Dustin Johnson, Vijay, YE Yang, Jacobsen, JB Holmes, Bo Van Pelt, Charles Howell, Toms, Gay and Big Ben Crane, who is a fantasy favourite.

Talking Nike Golf on The Golf Club Radio Show

I had the pleasure of being a guest on Danielle Tucker’s The Golf Club Radio Show this past Saturday morning, and we talked Nike Golf. I was on for about 20 minutes and we covered a bit about Tiger, talked some Hawaii golf, discussed the NG Nation blog, talked about Nike Golf’s new “Inspire Cink” contest and discussed the new SQ MachSpeed and Victory Red equipment lines. You can listen to my segment here. One cool thing was that the pro David Fink who was on before me mentioned he just switched to Nike Golf equipment, specifically the VR line. I really enjoyed being on Danielle’s show and look forward to the opportunity to talk golf (and Nike Golf) on The Golf Club Radio Show again soon!

Nike Golf Athlete Jamie Lovemark Secures His First Win on the Nationwide Tour

Jamie Lovemark, who signed with Nike Golf in 2009, captured his first career victory on the Nationwide Tour at this week’s Mexico Open Bicentenary.  Lovemark won on the first hole of a sudden death playoff by making an eagle to seal his win.  This marks his first professional title since turning pro in 2009.

Using his Nike VR Tour driver and his Nike VR Blade irons, Lovemark exhibited confidence in the final round.  On the first playoff hole he hit his Nike VR Tour driver off the tee and his VR Blade 6-iron for his second shot to land him three feet left of the hole.

“It was definitely the best shot I’ve hit in a really long time,” said Lovemark. “My caddy and I figured the ball would go twelve percent farther due to elevation and another eight percent because of adrenaline. I hit a perfect six-iron from 235-yards. I think it was half luck, half skill.”

With the help of his Nike VR Tour driver, Lovemark currently is ranked sixth in driving distance on the Nationwide Tour with an average of 315-yards.  Rounding out Lovemark’s arsenal of Nike Golf equipment is his Nike SQ Dymo 15-degree 3-wood, Nike VR 18-degree hybrid, Nike VR Blade irons 4-PW, Nike VR 52, 56 and 60-degree wedges and his Nike ONE Tour golf ball.

Lovemark is now third in all-around ranking and is second on the Nationwide Tour money list, putting him in a good position to earn a spot on the PGA Tour in 2011.

Lovemark’s Nike Arsenal

Driver:  Nike VR Tour 10.5-degree

Fantasy Four Recap: The Travelers Championship (Month 2 Results!)

Another exciting week on Tour, as Justin Rose couldn’t hold on and Bubba Watson captured the win. I was actually happy with my selection of players. Curtis, Verplank, Rose and Ricky Barnes are performed well. We also had some big names, such as Goosen and Harrington in the Top 10, so this was a very good tournament.

The big dissappointment lies in Mahan, Perry and Cink. While Mahan got a Missed Cut for just about everyone, Perry picked up a 74th place finish and Cink has a T47 after a string of good starts and a history at this event. Through all of the picks, we ended up with a tie for 1st for our last week of Month 2. Only 2 people picked Bubba Watson and they are your winners this week.

Meredith W’s Winning Team: Bubba Watson (1), Rickie Fowler (T13), Stewart Cink (T47) and Adam Scott (MC)
Alan N’s Winning Team : Bubba Watson (1), Rickie Fowler (T13), Stewart Cink (T47) and Hunter Mahan (MC)

Both teams had 19 points, but there were also a bunch of teams that had a pair of Top 10′s. Hit the link to check out the Travelers Championship Fantasy Points to see how you fared this week. I’d also like to welcome Steve H to the contest.

This concludes Month 2 and in typical PGA Tour winning fashion, Chris Wang pulls off a win on Sunday, during the fourth and final round of this month. Chris finished 2nd at Memorial, 3rd at St. Jude, 9th at The US Open and 3rd at the Travelers for his win. He barely pulls off a win over Alan N (who had a missed cut at Memorial, which clearly hurt him). Congratulations to Chris! However, Alan still holds a slight edge on the season rankings.

Check below for the Month 2 and Overall Season results;

While this only concludes the 2nd Month of the NG Nation Fantasy Four Contest, there are still all the following tournaments to be played (with double points for the FedEx Cup! So there’s still a big chance to win the grand prize!);

JULY
AT&T National
John Deere Classic
Reno Tahoe Open
Open Championship
RBC Canadian Open
The Greenbriar Classic

AUGUST
Turning Stone Resort Classic
WGC Bridgestone Invitational
PGA Championship
Wyndham Championship

AUGUST/SEPTEMBER — FEDEX CUP (DOUBLE POINTS)
The Barclays

So stay tuned as we kick off Month 3 of the NG Nation Fantasy Four contest! Thanks again for playing!

Nike Golf Signs Collegiate Star Dustin Garza

Garza makes his professional PGA Tour debut this week at The Travelers

Check out this video of Dustin Garza’s press conference at The Traveler’s Championship >>

Nike Golf today announced the signing of collegiate star Dustin Garza, who makes his professional debut as a Nike Golf athlete when he tees it up in the first round of the PGA Tour’s Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Connecticut.  This announcement comes just three weeks after Nike Golf signed another collegiate star, Matt Hill, who made his professional debut at the PGA Tour’s Memorial Tournament.

Garza, a 22-year-old from Mission, Texas, has signed a multi-year agreement and will represent Nike Golf in clubs, ball, footwear, glove, bag, apparel, headwear and accessories.

“Signing with Nike Golf is incredible,” said Garza. “I love what Nike stands for and I’m impressed by the knowledge and the passion that goes into how they develop products for athletes.  They know their stuff and I’m honored to be representing the Swoosh.”

Garza enjoyed an illustrious career while playing for Wichita State University.  A winner of 12 collegiate events, Garza surpassed fellow Nike athlete Tiger Woods’ record of 11 wins while competing at Stanford University. This year, Garza was a NCAA Division 1 First Team All-American and the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year.  Among his 12 collegiate championships, Garza won two Missouri Valley Conference championships.

“Dustin is extremely athletic and knows how to compete,” said Mark Thaxton, Director of Sports Marketing for Nike Golf.  “He is exceptionally long and has a great sense of feel around the greens. We are very excited to add him to our talented roster of athletes.”

Garza’s Nike Golf Arsenal
