September 16 UPDATE: Proof that Stewart Cink reads posts to him, he replied back to my twitter feed with this:
Cink has been wearing the Tour Premium for a while now, so maybe he will get a special edition, otherwise, I would love to see him debut the new 2011 line and I think that some good models for him will be a Zoom Advance with a USA-inspired composite mid-foot harness, or an all white Lunar Control with red, white, and blue flywire.
I’m excited about the Ryder Cup this year and will be rooting for the United States to retain the Cup, but I am also interested in what the players will be wearing. In 2008, Nike Golf produced the on-course attire for the players and while there were no swoosh logos visible, I think the uniforms were a hit. 2008 also brought out of my favorite shoes – the original Zoom Elite – on one of my favorite tour player – Anthony Kim – in a special red white and blue U.S. edition colorway.
The following year, we were treated to some special custom Nike shoes for the 2009 Presidents Cup for Nike Golf athletes Justin Leonard and AK. They included the Zoom Elite II in a new red white edition, as well as an all white with red trim Tour Premium for JL.
This year for the Ryder Cup, the U.S. uniforms will not be made by Nike and instead Captain Pavin and team (wife) have looked to use a new color palette to the tradition red, white, and blue with the new manufacturer. In fact, we may be seeing the Americans in…lavender cardigans?
In any case, I am looking forward to seeing what Nike Golf Athletes Tiger Woods, Stewart Cink, and Franceso Molinari will be wearing on their feet. The players get to choose their own shoes, between black or white, so I’m particularly hoping for a new TW USA Ryder Cup edition, and a special edition Tour Premium for Stewart Cink. As for Francesco, I’ve watched him play in all white tour premiums here and here (shamless plug), but also in Air Anthems.
Who knows, maybe we’ll get to see something like this:
