Back in July at The Open Championship, Tiger Woods switched to the Nike METHOD putter for the first three days of the tournament, only to switch back to his Scotty Cameron Newport on Sunday. Much speculation followed as to whether the switch back to his Scotty would be permanent, or if he ever would give the METHOD putter another chance after his poor putting performance at St. Andrews. Well, today it looks like we got our answer, as Tiger was seen during his practice round at Celtic Manor with a METHOD 003 in his hands.
The thinking might be that, like at St. Andrews, the greens might be slower at Celtic Manor and the quicker roll the METHOD produces might be beneficial. But a couple other questions come to mind — first, why the switch to a heel-shafted mid-mallet design, when his Scotty Cameron is an Anser-style blade model (as was the METHOD 001 he switched to at St. Andrews)? Secondly, will this new putter actually make it into his bag on Friday, and if so will it stay in his bag through Sunday? We’ll have to see if we get any information on the switch to a different model, and if the new putter is in Tiger’s bag on the first tee on Friday morning.
