I woke up around 530 a.m. EST today, only to turn on ESPN and see a sheet of rain in Wales, so I glady went back to bed. However, while I didn’t get to see any of the rounds at that time, I did get to see ESPN’s commenters, including Paul Azinger, talking about the US team’s outerwear performance. It seems that the outerwear looks like its retaining water! Let’s have a look at what the Europeans said via twitter:
The U.S. has now bought 24 rain suits from the merch store that cost 350 pounds, each!
In an ESPN interview with Tiger Woods, Tiger suggested that when selecting gear for players, the captain and PGA consult with sponsors and have the sponsors make identical uniforms for their athletes using materials that the players are familiar with. A good suggestion and one that would probably have avoided today’s debacle. Further, when former captain Paul Azinger was asked about the comment he said that as captain he went with Nike (his sponsor at the time), and while not with Nike anymore, he thought Nike Golf outerwear was excellent.
Here’s some gear that would have surely helped the players today.
Seam-sealed, waterproof, windproof, and breathable.
3-layer composite – nothing is getting through this!
UPDATE: Now reports are saying that the Ryder Cup staff bags are leaking.
