Tiger Woods swapped out his once trusty Scotty Cameron for the Nike Method 003 mid mallet putter for the final round of the JBWere Australian Masters (see photo here). It marked the third time the Method putter has made an appearance in Woods’ hands this year — Tiger used the Method 001 in the first three rounds of the Open Championship, and the Method 003 was seen in Tiger’s bag in the Tuesday practice round at the Ryder Cup.
Woods attributed swapping out his Cameron for the Method due to slow greens which were drenched by heavy rain in rounds 2 and 3. He cited the same reason at The Open Championship at St. Andrews, as well as at the Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor.
Woods used the Method during his final round at the JBWere Australian Masters to card four birdies and two eagles on the back nine. He went -6 in his last 6 holes, with eagles on 15 and 18, and birdies on 13 and 17, en route to a 65, good for a 7-under par total for the tournament and a 4th place finish, just three shots back of winner Stuart Appleby.
Tiger’s strong performance bodes well for his upcoming 2011 season, but before that we should see him one more time this year at the Chevron World Challenge, which he hosts in December (12/2-12/5). The question is will he have the Method putter in his bag again for that tournament also, and perhaps for all four days?
