Here we are in the second stage of PGA Tour Q-School. While it’s the norm to see Nationwide players in Q-School (the 26-40 on Nationwide List are exempt to the Final Stage), it’s unusual to see European Tour players in the mix.
Here are the list of all the Nike Golf Athletes in Q-School :
Chris Nallen * (will appear in the final stage – 31st in Nationwide Money List)
While Brown, Osborn, Todd have been to Q-School before, the Spaniard Pablo Martin really jumps out at me.
Pablo Martin won the first event this year on the 2010 European Tour. Pablo won the Alfred Dunhill Championship by one shot over fellow Nike Athlete, Charl Schwartzel. Now, you’re telling me he has to go through Q-School? Let’s take a look at Pablo Martin’s 2010 European Tour season thus far;
26 events :: 1 win, 3 Top 10’s, 5 Top 10’s, 11 Cut’s
€ 440,294 Earning :: 66th on Race to Dubai Rankings
Aside from his win, his biggest finish in my opinion was his last one. Pablo played in the WGC HSBC Champions event and finished T16 (-5, just a few shots back of Tiger Woods, Paul Casey, Luke Donald, Ernie Els) behind some of the best golfers on the planet.
I know the exemption rules are vast for the PGA Tour and even for Q-School. I have no gripes for Nationwide Tour winners not making it. That’s just the way it goes. But if you even get the chance to play in a WGC Event (reserved for the best golfers in the world), that has to mean something. I just think Pablo AT LEAST deserves an exemption into the final stage of Q-School for winning on arguably a more competitive tour than the PGA.
However, Pablo should cruise his way through Q-School and play with a big of a chip on his shoulder, knowing he has to go through this process.
Best of luck to Pablo and all the other Nike Golf Athletes. The final stage takes place December 2nd.
