What a way to start the 2011 European Tour season! Pablo Martin picked up the win and successfully defended his 2010 win at the Alfred Dunhill Championship.
The strange part to me is that Pablo was in the final stage of Q-School but a week ago after going through the very earliest of qualifying stages. Maybe 2 wins in the span of 1 year on the European Tour is enough to get him an exemption on the PGA Tour if he so chooses.
Also in the field, Charl Schwartzel finished with a T2, same as last year. How odd. 2011 is starting exactly the same way for these two Nike Golf Athletes. However, there’s some new faces on the European Tour, as Tommy Fleetwood and Matt Haines were in the field.
Here’s the scores for the Nike Athletes at the 2011 Alfred Dunhill Championship;
1 :: Pablo Martin :: 69 70 68 70 :: 277 :: -11
T2 :: Charl Schwartzel :: 70 70 69 70 :: 279 :: -9
CUT :: Tommy Fleetwood :: 72 75 :: 147 :: +3
CUT :: Matt Haines :: 79 71 :: 150 :: +6
WD :: Oliver Fisher
Meanwhile in Dubai, Michelle Wie joined the Ladie’s European Tour for their final event of their 2010 season. After some questions about her back, Michelle came out and picked up a nice Top 10. Here are the scores for the Nike Athletes at the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters.
T6 :: Michelle Wie :: 71 72 73 67 :: 283 :: -5
T31 :: Frances Bondad :: 78 70 71 73 :: 292 :: +4
CUT :: Carly Booth :: 76 77 :: 153 :: +9
On the PGA Tour, the Shark Shootout happened, and while DJ and Poults took the win, Anthony Kim had a decent outing. He was paired with Chris Dimarco and they finished T3. I’m not sure how much this actually says about AK being 100%, as AK thrives in team play, but it’s a good sign. Fellow Nike Athlete, Justin Leonard, was paired with Scott Verplank and finished T10 (out of 10 teams).
A big congratulations to Pablo, Charl and Michelle on their big finishes this past week.
