We’ve got two tour players going for three-peats this week; Mark Wilson and Dustin Johnson.
DJ has won this event the past two years and Mark Wilson is looking for his 3rd win of the season through 4 events. We’ve got a great field this week as Paddy, Sergio and Furyk join the mix.
Justin finished T14 at the 2010 US Open at Pebble Beach, which is mighty fine. Coming off of a T41 at Phoenix and a T13 at the Bob Hope, he’s the best Nike look this week, statistically.
JB has had a decent start to his PGA Tour career. MDF at the Sony Open after opening 71-68 and a missed cut at Farmers with a 71-73. I think he’ll make the cut this time and we should see a decent finish.
I hope Lovemark can relax this week. After being the big hype this season, it was fellow Nationwide grad and Nike athtlete, Jhonattan Vegas who has been stealing the show. JUST missed the cut in Phoenix and closed the Bob Hope out with a 66. I think this is his breakthrough week.
The next great Canadian makes his 2011 season debut this week. Hill played in 5 events last year, making only 1 cut and averaging 72.4 strokes. Not bad but he’s far under the radar. I’m looking for big things from Matt Hill.
other Nike athletes to choose from :: Kevin Kisner
recent finishes – T29 at Phoenix, T3 at Farmers, T9 at HTOC, t1 Shark Shootout, t16 at Chevron, t2 at ADT Skills, t1 at Wendy’s 3-Tour
I will keep him here just because of his previous results. He only had 1 bad round at Phoenix, opening with a 64 and finishing with a 67. I think we’re looking at a winner. Don’t forget his collapse at Pebble Beach at the US Open..and don’t forget his T7 in ’08 here too.
recent finishes – 1st at Phoenix, 1st at Sony Open
I’m impressed. MDF here last year, T39 in ’09, T34 in ’08, T25 in ’07. Decent history here.
recent finishes – T8 at Phoenix, T9 at Farmers
Snedeker never seems to get much love, but I’ll show him some here. Sneaky Top 10’s the past two weeks. T21 here last year along with a T8 at the US Open. Sleeper city.
recent finishes –T5 at Phoenix, T6 at Farmers
Another baller with back-to-back Top 10’s. Watney is a stud who posted a T22 here in ’09 and T27 last year. A Watney/DJ duel? Yes, please. Also a T7 in ’06.
best finishes – 1st in ’09, 1st in ’05, 1st in ’07, T8 in ’10, T4 at 2010 US Open
Right up there with DJ and Watney as favourites to win in my books. A weekend of 71’s ended Phil’s streak of 6 straight rounds in the 60’s, but Phil should be gunning for gold here.
best finishes – 1st in ’04, 2nd in ’08, T11 in ‘07
Vijay has been playing decent golf since the end of last year. T3 last week, T20 at Farmers and ended last year with a T11 at the Deutsche Bank, T24 at the BMW and T12 at the Children’s Miracle Network Classic. I think he’s worth a shot.
best finishes – 2nd in ’09, T14 in ’08, T3 in ’06, 2nd in ’05, T4 in ’04, T3 in ‘03
Pretty sure that Mike is healthy after having some elbow issues to close last year. He has a stellar record here. He also Also, he used to babysit and change the diapers of one of our Fantasy Four participants, Courtney Zylstra. Sarnia, Ontario…represent.
Alan :: Dustin Johnson, J.B. Holmes, Hunter Mahan and Justin Leonard
Bob :: Brandt Snedeker, Nick Watney, Vijay Singh and Justin Leonard
Damian :: Dustin Johnson, Nick Watney, Vijay Singh and Jamie Lovemark
Lots of good looks this week. I’m taking a chance with Vijay, but wouldn’t hesitate to put Phil, Furyk, Mahan, Clark or Snedeker in the same spot. Also, I think Lovemark is due, even though Justin Leonard will be the popular Nike pick.
We have a lot of Canadians playing this game; Myself, Courtney Zylstra, Jane Snyder, Bryan, Mosher, Christina Black and Ottawa Golf Blog. Let’s throw out an all Canadian Team
- Matt Hill
- Mike Weir
- Chris Baryla
