HEART BREAK CITY!
(see: Gus Johnson Soundboard)
What a first round!
Tiger, Stricker, Furyk and Poulter are all out, crushing many people’s brackets. However, Casey, Kaymer, McIlroy, Donald and Westwood are still hangin’ tough.
As far as NG Nation Picks go (check out our brackets here);
Alan :: 15/32
Bob :: 21/32
Damian :: 20/32
Let’s see where the remaining Nike athletes stand after Anthony Kim, Tiger Woods and Francesco Molinari were eliminated.
BOBBY JONES BRACKET
7. Charl Schwartzel (won in 20 holes vs. Ryo Ishikawa)
faces Matteo Manassero
Way to pull out the win, Charl. Matteo is the real deal, as we all know, but Stricker hasn’t started the year too strongly. Schwartzel on the other hand has a win and 5 Top 10’s. Boom, Schwartzel’d. Can we call him the “Teen Killer”? or does that sound too horrible?
SAM SNEAD BRACKET
2. Paul Casey (won in 19 holes vs. Green)
faces Jason Day
Tough initial test for Casey. Given that, I think he will dominate Jason Day. Casey is out for blood now! No more messing around from the favourite.
BEN HOGAN BRACKET
14. Stewart Cink (won in 19 holes vs. Poulter)
faces Y.E. Yang
Two 2009 major winners will face off. I’m actually very impressed by Yang pulling out the win after being down early. However, Cink defeated Poulter in my match of the day. I thought that the winner of their match was going far and I still think so. Look for Cink to win here.
Looks like all 3 Nike athletes will be moving on. Let’s hope for another stunner tomorrow! (with less wind)
