Schwartzel kept up his hot play with staying in the Top 10 for most of the Honda, but fell out on Sunday (but only to a T14). Big tip for Schwartzel this week; he finished 2nd at this event last year in his only appearance.
I actually feel like this is a huge week for Tiger. I actually think that this is one of his best venues. Since 2000, Tiger has had 9 appearances and 9 Top 10’s. He’s averaging 4th place and has 5 wins here.
PC is always a winner. He’s had 7 starts here, 3 Top 10’s and 4 Top 25’s. 6th place last year. Paul’s last two starts were a T17 at Match Play and T12 at the Northern Trust Open.
One start here last year, finished T14. However, Francesco is a winner on the big stage. He won the WGC HSBC Champions against basically the same field.
other Nike athletes to choose from :: Anthony Kim
recent finishes – T6 Honda Classic, T9 Match Play, T3 Abu Dhabi HSBC, 3rd HTOC
Why is he such a baller? Pair his recent starts with his 5 starts at this event (2 Top 10’s, 2 Top 25’s), most recently a T6 at last year’s event.
recent finishes – T17 Honda Classic, 3rd Match Play, T35 Northern Trust, T7 Bob Hope, T5 Sony Open, T6 HTOC
Dropped out of the Top 10 last week, but at this event last year (his only appearance) he finished 3rd.
recent finishes – T10 at Honda Classic, 1st Match Play
Luke is so clutch. He closed the Honda Classic with a 66. In addition to last week’s finish, Luke’s record here is hot. Since at Doral, Luke has finished 20, 20, 26, 26. Prior to that, he finished 6, 11, 11. So the course change seemed to have effected him.
recent finishes –T9 Match Play, T6 Pebble Beach, T5 Phoenix Open, T6 Farmers
I still remember being impressed by Watney’s 2nd place finish in 2009 at Doral. He’s hot an also had a T26 here last year. Could be a big win this week for the kid.
looking at 2000-2010
best finishes – 1st in 2010, 1st in 2004, T11 in 2007, T20 in 2010
There have only been 4 winners for the 9 events. Els has won twice and has a good record at Doral. Els didn’t have a great week last wee, but always bounces back well.
best finishes – 1st in 2009, 14th in 2010, T20 in 2008, T23 in 2007
Amazing record at Doral, as all of his best finishes have come in the past 4 years.
best finishes – 1st in 2008, 3rd in 2007
Ogilvy is another former winner at Doral. He finished 40 and 45 in the past two years, but I can’t ignore his 3rd and 1st place finishes since the move to Doral. In Ogilvy’s 4 starts this season, he has 4 Top 25’s and 2 Top 10’s.
best finishes –2nd in 2008, 3rd in 2009, 4th in 2006
Furyk is one of the few who has picked up a pair of Top 10’s at Doral. While his most recent finish was a T37 last year, Furyk hasn’t been that impressive this year. 1st round exit at Match Play, T35 at Northern Trust. His best finish was at the Tournament of Champions with a T9.
Alan :: Jeff Overton, Graeme McDowell, Nick Watney and Tiger Woods
Bob :: Robert Karlsson, Retief Goosen, Anthony Kim and Francesco Molinari
Damian :: Alvaro Quiros, Martin Kaymer, Steve Stricker and Paul Casey
None of us took Schwartzel. Weird, right?
What a tough few last events. Really hard to leave out McDowell and Kuchar this week. Toughest one not to pick is Phil. I think Phil is due for a win, but I think the same about Stricker. Heck, even Nick Watney. My alternate 4 would be Tiger, Watney, Phil and McDowell. I wish.
