Nike Golf posted a poll for its Facebook fans today asking who had the freshest NIKE look this weekend on tour. The options are Simon Dyson who competed in the Sicilian Open and Lucas Glover and Paul Casey who competed in the Transitions Championship. According to reader comments, it seems like Paul Casey has the lead, but here’s my take:
And in this tight race, the winner goes to…Simon Dyson
I’ve written about Simon Dyson’s on-course styling before and while I think Glover and Casey look very smart in Nike apparel, I think Dyson represents the most fashionable look, combining modern fit with subtle nods to the revered style of legends like Gary Player.
For the Sicilian Open, Dyson wore the Dri-Fit Imperial Polo in Light Concord/Gridiron from the Nike Golf European line. I think this was a good choice for him because this particular shirt incorporates more cotton into the mix. While I love wearing the Dri-Fit line that are 100% polyester, especially on hot days, the 60% cotton (with 5% organic), and 40% poly blend of the Imperial Polo have that old-school look, which really looks classic and timeless. I’m glad to see that Nike has made a top that incorporates both new and old. I also like the embroidered Nike swoosh patch which falls in line with the old Le Tigre and Lacoste polos of the 70s. I also liked how Dyson paired his this polo with the white Modern Tech pant and Lunar controls. Its the perfect balance of tradition, technology, and fit.
Glover and Casey however looked great in their respective outfits. Glover had an iconic American look during the first round, wearing the traditional khaki trousers and a green shirt. If there’s anything that screams American it’s khaki on the golf course. Casey had his trademark sunglasses and the new UV Bold Stripe polo, but I’d like to see him distinguish himself among the rest of the athletes somehow.
