AK loves the Masters. He finished solo 3rd last year, T20 the year before and holds the course record for birdies in a round. 11 birdies in 2009 in Round 2. He’s playing well, he loves the course and he’s my dark horse to win.
I honestly think Tiger is going to win. I know he’s not playing great, but he actually seemed happy playing at Bay Hill two weeks ago. Tiger faced the best golfers in the world at the WGC Cadillac and come up with a T10. Last year after all the drama, he still finished T4. Even though the last time he won here was 2005, he’s had 5 straight Top 6 finishes since then. His record here is insane and you can’t count him out. Tiger FTW.
Casey was a popular pick last year due to his finishes in previous years (6th in ’04, 10th in ’07, 11th in ’08, 20th in ’09). He missed the cut last year, but that’s okay. This year he started with 3 straight Top 20’s and had a T37 at the Transitions, which was 3 weeks ago. He’ll be in good shape and pick up a Top 25.
Cink has been more consistent with ever this season. Cink is on 5 straight Top 30’s and most recently a T12 at Bay Hill and a T11 at Transitions. Best recent finish at Augusta was 3rd in 2008.
other Nike athletes to choose from :: Charl Schwartzel, Carl Pettersson, Lucas Glover, Jhonattan Vegas and Francesco Molinari
recent finishes – T8 at Houston, 5th WGC Caddy, T17 Honda, 3rd Match Play
I say this every time; Kuchar is always hot. Kuchar dropped a T24 last year since his T61 in 2002. You know he’s going to improve on that this time around and can never be discounted.
recent finishes – 1st Arnold Palmer, T5 Transitions, T10 WGC Caddy
He’s hot and took a week off after his win. However, Laird has never played at the Masters before. Can’t like that!
recent finishes –T13 Transitions, 1st WGC Caddy, T9 Match Play, T6 Pebble Beach, T5 Phoenix Open, T6 Farmers
What a hot piece of fire. He’s a sexy pick this week and how can you argue?! Look at his record here; T11 in ’08, T19 in ’09 and T7 last year. Ummmm…count it!
recent finishes – T6 WGC Caddy, T10 Honda Classic, 1st Match Play
Another baller who is always hot, Luke D has struggled as of late at Augusta. However, he finished 10th in ’07 and 3rd in ’05. He is always dialed in with his short game and putter so he could be another sleeper this week.
*bonus Masters hotness
Sergio Garcia – 8th at Arnold Palmer, T15 at Transitions
looking at 2000-2010
best finishes – 1st in ’92, T6 in ’10, T3 in ’06, T6 in ’04
Say what you will, but Couples hasn’t missed the cut here in the past 11 years, averaging 26th place. He also hasn’t missed the cut on Tour this year. He finished T7 at the Northern Trust Open.
best finishes – see below
In the past 11 years, Phil has 11 Top 25s and 10 Top 10s. Throw in 3 wins there. He’s also coming off of a win last week. Good grief. Since 2000, he’s the only one with a better record than Tiger, as Tiger is tied with 11 Top 25s, but only has 9 Top 10s.
best finishes – 1st in ’00, T5 in ’05, T6 in ’03 and ’04, T7 in ’02, T8 in ’06
Aside from Tiger and Phil with 11 Top 25’s in the past 25 years, you have Vijay in 9 Top 25s in that same span. 6 of those were Top 10s. Vijay is coming off of a missed cut at Bay Hill, but has 2 Top 3 finishes this year (Northern Trust and Phoenix Open).
best finishes – 2nd in ’07 and ’02, 3rd in ’05 and ’06, 13th in ’03 and ’04
Retief has had great success at Augusta. In his 11 appearances since 2000, he has 7 Top 25s and is averaging 23rd position. Last year he was T38 and was a popular pick. Goosen finished T60 at Shell last week, but should feel very comfortable at Augusta.
Alan :: Phil Mickelson, Steve Stricker, Graeme McDowell and Anthony Kim
Bob :: Phil Mickelson, Steve Stricker, Tiger Woods and Anthony Kim
Damian :: Ian Poulter, Nick Watney, Tiger Woods and Anthony Kim
Really hard not to take McIlroy, Phil, Mahan and Casey this week. Heck, event Westwood, Stricker, Kuchar and Kaymer.. However, Kaymer’s record isn’t that great here, but it doesn’t matter at all. I see Kaymer with a Top 5 this week.
I think the most popular Fantasy Four will be :: Nick Watney, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson…who knows…Luke Donald?
I know I left off a lot of the Euros. Don’t get it twisted, I’m on love with Donald, Kaymer, Casey, Westwood, McIlroy, Fisher and all the boys, but this week, there’s about 10 guys who I think can legitimately win it.
Other big names in the field :: Martin Kaymer, Lee Westwood, Graeme McDowell, Steve Stricker, Matt Kuchar, Jim Furyk, Dustin Johnson, Bubba Watson, Justin Rose, Alvaro Quiros, Louis Oosthuizen, Adam Scott, Geoff Ogilvy, Rickie Fowler, Padraig Harrington, Zach Johnson, Ryan Moore, Tom Watson
