Here’s a list of players who notched Top 10’s at Augusta and are in the field this week;
T2 – Adam Scott (defending champion)
T4 – Geoff Ogilvy
7 – Angel Cabrera
T8 – Bo Van Pelt
10 – Ryan Palmer
Two BIG caveats this week, so the history section will be different;
1/ This if the first time this event is being played after The Masters (usually after the Players)
2/ This is only the 2nd playing of this event at TPC San Antonio
This is Event 15 (third event of Month 4) of the NG Nation Fantasy Four Contest and it’s never too late to join, as there are monthly and season prizes.

AK looks to rebound this week and I like his chances. He ended Augusta on a hot streak and you know he’s bitter about missing the cut for the first time. This is his first time here, but I wouldn’t worry too much about that.
Again, I’m very impressed with Vegas’ performance at the Masters and he should be too. He only lost it on his last 9 holes on Friday, other than that, he was going to make the cut. He’s still 12th in the FedEx Cup standings. He should be well rested and looking do dominate this course. Vegas is also a University of Texas grad, so he knows how to win in Texas.
Justin has won this event in 2000, 2001 and 2007. However, that was a different course. Last year, he had an MDF. This year, he’s coming off of CUTs at the Shell Houston Open and the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Before that, he had back-to-back Top 20’s, so let’s hope he gets back to form.
I’m going to give CPetts a lot of credit for the way he played at Augusta. He had an excellent start at the course and I was impressed. However, he missed the cut and Amen Corner got the best of him. At this event last year, Carl finished T22 shooting 74-68-69-71. He just had a bad opening round… If that was an even par round, he would have been T13. I actually kinda like him this week.
other Nike athletes to choose from :: Stewart Cink, Jamie Lovemark, Kevin Kisner, Joseph Bramlett
Charles Howell III
recent finishes – T19 Shell Houston, T39 API, MC Transitions, T10 Honda, T13 Mayakoba
The T19 at Shell was ruined by a 2nd round 75. Other than that, he had three rounds in the 60’s, closing with a 67. He’s not super hot, but he also had a round of 65 at the Arnold Palmer.
recent finishes – T2 Masters, T6 WGC Cadillac.
Adam’s two most recent starts were against the best players in the field. This week, arguably, he’s right up there with AK. Should be the favorite this week as the defending champ.
recent finishes – T4 Masters, T28 Transitions, T49 WGC Caddy, T9 Match Play
Hasn’t missed a cut all year, with 3 Top 10’s and 5 Top 25’s in 7 starts. Didn’t play here last year.
recent finishes – T20 Masters, 1st API, T5 Transitions, T10 WGC Caddy, T33 Match Play, T25 NTrust, T3 Phoenix Open
Take out his first round exit at Match Play and he has the best record of anyone.
As per my point above, this is the 2nd time at this course and it’s being played a month early. The one thing I do know is that guys who miss the cut at Augusta, do well the next week. Last year at the Heritage (usually played here) Jim Furyk finished 1st and Luke Donald finished 3rd. Both missed the cut at Augusta in 2010.
Going back 1 year earlier, Furyk had a T10 at the 2009 Masters then missed the cut at the Heritage the following week.
That’s about all the history I have. But here’s some Top 10’s from last year’s event
best finishes – T9 in ’10
Before his missed cut at Shell, he made 6 straight cuts, picking up 3 Top 10’s and 5 Top 25’s. Pretty solid.
best finishes – T9 in ’10
The quietest Top at at Augusta. He finished with the lowest round at last years event with a 64.
best finishes – 2nd in ’10
Before missing the cut at Shell, Jacobsen was straight fire. T9 API, T14 Puerto Rico, T29 Honda, T19, Mayakoba.
best finishes – T6 in ’10
I never knew this man existed prior to writing this. However, Garth has one start this year and it was a T12 at Pebble Beach. Maybe he’s injured or he’s just been resting for this event.
Alan :: Ricky Barnes, Marc Leishman, Adam Scott and Anthony Kim
Bob :: Bo Van Pelt, Geoff Ogilvy, Adam Scott and Jhonattan Vegas
Damian :: Spencer Levin, Fredrik Jacobson, Brian Gay and Anthony Kim
Martin Laird was a tough one not to pick, he’s top 10 in All-Around and Scoring. But I’m gambling enough taking AK and Gay who haven’t played this course before. I think it helps to have someone that actually played the course before. But that’s just me. How do you not take Adam Scott this week?! The only thing that scares me is that Furyk stat up above..and also that his Top 10’s came very far apart. Both times Adam has played back to back weeks, he’s missed the cut. I’ll leave it to Scott to prove me wrong.
I think the most popular Fantasy Four will be :: Adam Scott, Martin Laird, Geoff Ogilvy and Anthony Kim
I think Vegas and Pettersson deserve some looks, too..but I can never discount my boy! AK, 2011 US Open champion. You heard it here first.
Other big names in the field :: Brandt Snedeker, J.B. Holmes, Charley Hoffman, Kevin Na, David Duval, Marc Leishman, Ryuji Imada, Bryce Molder, Rocco Mediate, Paul Goydos, Charles Howell III and Arjun Atwal
