UPDATE: Here’s a video posted by Golf.com of the goodies
***********************
It’s Major Week again! This week marks the second of four exciting weeks that I love to cover with the U.S. Open festivities beginning. The players have arrived at Congressional, and the Nike Tour Truck is on the premises. And like every major, the good folks at Nike have brought the usual ‘Swag Bag’ for its participating athletes. This year, the goods came in a red, white and blue duffle. We’ve only seen a glimpse of what’s inside, but if previous major swag is any indication, the athletes should receive a track jacket in addition to their trainers and Lunar Controls. Here’s a peak at this year’s custom apparel. You can view last year’s apparel here.
This year’s duffle comes with roman numerals signifying the 111th year of the U.S. Open. The red, white, and blue pays homage to Congressional Golf Club, the site of this year’s tournament, as well as the overall patriotic feel of the U.S. Open. Note that Lucas’ bag has the font color reversed, as well as a white start to commemorate his 2009 U.S. Open victory.
Despite being a Nike shoehead, it is virtually impossible to know all the models. In fact, I do not know what model trainer this is! Nevertheless, the customization on this shoe is pretty awesome, with a custom insole and a nice red and white colorway. For me, this is a big improvement from last year’s Air Force 1.
UPDATE: This shoe is actually a one-of-a-kind, designed by Nike Athletic Training for the Nike Golf athletes to celebrate competing in the U.S. Open.
Paul Casey tweeted this pic which demonstrates the detail on the heel. You can see the same roman numerals from the bag are embroidered on the back of the shoe.
In contrast, Lucas Glover’s shoe version is a blue and white colorway to show off his 2009 victory.
As usual, here’s my suggestion for the 2011 U.S. Open shoe. It’s the Nike LunarGlide +2 in a special U.S. Open colorway and it also happens to be one of my favorite Nike sneakers out there. At only 10.6 oz, the shoe is remarkably light due to Flywire technology which provides ultra-lightweight support.
The tongue features U.S. Open.
Hopefully, we’ll get to see what else the Athletes received for the U.S. Open. Stay tuned for updates.
Where can I get the lunar glide plus 2 us open sneakers
The Lunar Glide+2 looks like something Alan just made using NikeiD..and not an official offering for the US Open from Nike
Correct, these were custom made by me and I usually make my own shoe option for the Majors. Glad you liked them!
Hey Eddie,
Like Damian says below, this is not an official U.S. Open offering from Nike, but you can customize a pair like Alan did at this link:

Alan, awesome post, brother! I really like your suggestion…far more than the Nike offering. However, the blue colorway for G’Lover looks pretty slick.
I have to say that I just created a custom pair of LunarGlide +2’s at the Nike ID link I posted above using Alan’s color scheme, and I might just buy these, especially since the custom U.S. Open shoes Nike made for the Nike Golf athletes are one-of-a-kind and not available to the public. Nice suggestion Alan!
