This Sunday is Father’s Day, and if the special golfing dad in your life is like me, if he’s not out on the course he’ll be spending a large part of the day parked in his favorite easy chair in front of the U.S. Open final round telecast. If you’re looking to make his day even more special, check out these ten Nike Golf items that I personally recommend to make dad’s smile extra wide on Sunday:
VR Pro Driver
The VR Pro is a player’s driver with a traditional pear-shaped head, and it makes the ball go a long way. It sounds great, looks great, and the STR8-FIT adjustability will allow dad to adjust the club to his own specifications. If you want to read more, click here to check out my review of the VR Pro driver.
20XI Golf Balls
Nike’s new premium golf ball has a lighter, faster resin core that makes this one of the longest balls they have ever produced. The lighter core allows more weight to be placed at the perimeter of the ball, making it spin less off the driver and more off the short irons. The 20XI comes in a distance version (20XI-X) and a Spin version (20XI-S). If you want to give dad a ball that he can hit far off the tee and close to the flag, get him a dozen 20XIs. Read more in my product review of the 20XI golf ball.
Lunar Control Shoes
The Lunar Control is by far the most comfortable golf shoe I have ever worn. Nike has incorporated two of its cutting edge shoe technologies, Flywire in the saddle and Lunarlon foam in the midsole, to create a very stable shoe that feels great during the whole round. Learn more in my product review, or if you really want to get him something special, get him a pair of the Limited Edition U.S. Open Lunar Controls.
VR Pro Combo Irons
In my opinion, this is the best set of irons Nike Golf has ever produced. The VR Pro Combo irons have a traditional iron design but are packed with technology. They feature three different technologies throughout the set — a pocket cavity in the 3 and 4 irons; a split cavity in the 5, 6 and 7 irons; and muscleback blades for the 8, 9 and Pitching Wedge — which helps get the ball in the air with the long irons and gives great control with the short irons. If dad is a serious golfer and you want to get him a set of irons that can really help his game, get him the VR Pro Combos. Read my product review if you want to hear more.
Performance Carry Bag
This the best golf bag I have ever owned. I like it so much I have three of them — two are last year’s SQ Tour Stand bag (essentially the same bag as the Performance Carry), and one is the one pictured here (which is an updated version of the SQ Tour). It has a 14-way divider which makes it easy to get the clubs in and out of the bag, and plenty of pockets for storage, including a cooler pocket to keep drinks cool. It works great as a carry bag and on a cart. Check out Nike Golf’s press release about the Performance Carry bag for more info.
Method Milled and Method Core Putters
Nike’s finest putter offering to date has already won three major championships, including this year’s Masters (Charl Schwartzel used the Method 004 to win the green jacket). It’s available in two versions, the original Method (the premium milled version) and the new Method Core insert version, which gives the same forward roll benefits as the original Method by incorporating the Polymetal Groove Technology into a more affordable insert version. I own two of each, the Method 001 and 003 and Method Core 001 and 003, and I can personally vouch for the great roll these putters put on the ball. Read my review of the Method here, and Nike’s press release about the Method Core here (my review of the Method Core is coming soon).
SQ MachSpeed Black Driver
This new super light, super fast driver will help dad outdrive his buddies in their next match. It features a diffuser in the sole and a powerbow channel in the toe that optimize the aerodynamics of the head, allowing the player to swing it faster and hit the ball farther. I’ve found that the lighter weight of this driver allows me to really generate a lot of club head speed and subsequently hit the ball a long way off the tee. The SQ MachSpeed Black driver is available in round and square versions, read my review of the round version of the SQ MachSpeed Black driver here.
Nike Vision Victory Golf Sunglasses
These sunglasses are optimized for golf, helping the player to see the ball and the contours of fairways and greens more clearly. I have a pair and I wear them pretty much every day, on the course and off. They really help me to see my shots better on the course, and they’re stylish and comfortable so I wear them as my everyday sunglasses also. Get dad a pair of these and he might start to see things your way for once. 🙂 Check out my review here.
Nike Golf Dri-Fit Golf Shirts
I’ve been wearing Nike Dri-Fit for years, both on and of the course. The moisture-wicking fabric is the best on the market, and keeps me dry, cool and comfortable here in the Phoenix heat. The performance fabrics move with me in my golf swing, and are a bonus when I wear one of these shirts to work. There are an abundance of styles, sporty designs for on the course and more conservative styles for off the course. Check out Nike Golf’s 2011 Spring Collection here.
Nike Golf Club Carrying Case
If dad brings his clubs with him when he travels, you can’t go wrong with the Nike Golf Travel Cover. It’s durable, roomy, easy to get my golf bag in and out of, and easy to transport. It has handles in the right places, the skate wheels make it easy to wheel through the airport, and the foam collar that fits around the clubheads puts my mind at ease knowing that my clubs are well-protected during their journey. Read more in my review here.
Happy Father’s Day to all of the other golfing dads out there!
