6 of the 9 Nike athletes made the cut at the Open and they’re all in good shape heading into the weekend.
T1 (+2) :: Lucas Glover :: 66 70 :: -4
T7 ( +44) :: Charl Schwartzel :: 71 67 :: -2
T19 (+52) :: Anthony Kim :: 72 68 :: E
T19 (-13) :: Simon Dyson :: 68 72 :: E
T32 (+4) :: Stewart Cink :: 70 71 :: +1
T59 (+48) :: Paul Casey :: 74 69 :: +3
I’m not surprised by Charl’s big push, but I’m thrilled with Casey and AK fighting back hard today and showing some real guts to make big moves on Friday. The key for AK was hitting 8 greens in regulation, compared to 2 GIR yesterday.
Here are the athletes who didn’t make the cut;
T72 :: Justin Leonard :: 70 74 :: +4
T110 :: Francesco Molinari :: 73 75 :: +8
T125 :: Scott Jamieson :: 75 75 :: +10
Tough break for JLeo. I really thought he’d make the cut and have a good finish. Jamieson cools down, while Francesco still seems off this year. Here’s a hole-by-hole breakdown of Round 2;
As you can see, Dyson really lost control of his round after the 12th hole where he went +4 on the final 6 holes.. he’s still in it though!
Here’s a look at the tee times and pairings for Round 3;
|Group 3 @||09:15||Paul CASEY||KJ CHOI|
|Group 16||@ 11:35||Stewart CINK||Stephen GALLACHER|
|Group 23||@ 12:50||Yuta IKEDA||Simon DYSON|
|Group 27 @||13:30||Anthony KIM||Kyle STANLEY|
|Group 33 @||14:35||Charl SCHWARTZEL||Pablo LARRAZABAL|
|Group 36 @||15:05||Lucas GLOVER||Darren CLARKE|
I’m most worried about AK tomorrow. I feel like playing with Kyle Stanley is like putting a match next to a fire – sparks will fly. And not the good sparks. I expect Charl to climb into the Top 5, while Glover shoots a +1 or +2. Who knows, just some initial thoughts. It’s great to have al of these Nike athletes in the hunt for a major!
