AK gets my best dressed award for The Open for a strange reason – No one wore rain gear better than AK did in his Storm-Fit suit. And when he didn’t wear his rain gear, he wore simple designs and looked neat despite the inclusion of bright colors. He’s young and can pull it off. Here’s a look at his apparel:
Round 1: Pink polo with black rain pants
Round 2: Blue and yellow striped polo
Round 3: Black on black Storm-Fit rain suit
Round 3: Magenta polo under the rain suit
Round 4: Check out this Captain-Americaesque polo
My usual go-to pick for best dressed Nike Athlete typically goes to Simon Dyson, and while he started off strong with this unique polo during Round 1, the color and loud designs that he is so known for just didn’t work for me. Maybe it’s the history of The Open that commands the respect of subdued outfits, sort of like how tennis players wear all white during Wimbledon, but I thought that Dyson would have looked great in simple colors like he did at the Masters last year. Here’s the recap:
G’Lover might win my best dressed award for the open simply for this black polo he wore on Sunday. For some reason, black on black just clicked for me. All the athletes wore it well. Here’s a look at Glover’s attire for the week:
Round 1: White top half zip with Storm-Fit rain pants
Round 2: Now this is more like G’Lover, but check out his pants – dashing!
Round 3: Striped polo over a white baselayer
Round 4: Black polo on black pants with black hat
The slender South African, wore this gray sweater as he was flanked by a bunch of Waldo characters. Worth a look for the sheer strangeness of this photo. In round 2, Schwartzel looked like he was playing in a different tournament in this summer getup – Pairing a purple polo with white pants. But in round 3, the rain was back and Schwartzel wore his rain pants with a black sweater vest over a white baselayer.
2009’s Open Champion wore this sweet blue rain coat on most days. I’m not sure what this one is called, but I am definitely getting my hands on this. Lucas Glover also wore it on Saturday.
I think Casey looked best in black on black, even if it was due to his Storm-Fit rain gear. Here are some of his looks for the week:
Leonard was another Nike Athlete that opted for black on black. Here he is pairing it with the two-tone tour mesh hat.
Molinari opted for a blue sweater during round 1, but check out the white winter hat that he wore on the preview round. It’s unlikely that we’ll find these in stores over the summer, but I’ll be on the lookout for these once it gets cooler again.
Jamieson wore black on black as well, but wore a sweater that incorporated pops of purple. Here’s his look from Round 1.
