It was reported by CNBC’s Darren Rovell that Tiger Woods would be returning to Akron this week sporting a new Nike Golf TW Prototype golf shoe incorporating Nike Free Technology.
Confirming this report, early this morning Tiger stepped onto Firestone Country Club for his first practice session for the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational wearing the shoe.
According to other reports, Tiger had been training in Nike Free trainers while rehabilitating his knee, and asked Nike to make him a golf version. Nike came back with this menacing all black shoe which I love for TW’s comeback.
Now, I don’t want to take credit for Tiger’s concoction, but back in May of 2010 in my “What Shoe Would You Like to See” I did mention that the Nike Free 7.0 would be great as a golf shoe, commenting that they are “by far the most comfortable sneaker I’ve ever owned and a great summer time shoe.” TW, we know you’re reading this and we’ll let you have this one!
* So far, Nike Golf has not commented on when/if they will make this shoe available for retail.
* TW will be wearing a white version of the prototype shoe on Wednesday.
