We’ve been getting a lot of questions about the release date for the Nike TW Free-Inspired protoype golf shoe that Tiger wore at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational and PGA Championship. Fans of Nike Golf have shown a lot of interest in this shoe, which comes in black and white colorways.
I asked Nike Golf about a release date for this new shoe, and they told me the TW Nike Free-Inspired prototype shoe is still in the prototype stage, the shoe is still being refined and once it is ready they will bring it to retail. There is no official release date yet.
That’s not very specific, but if I were to guess I’d say maybe mid to late 2012 — this is my guess and not official word from Nike Golf. I’m guessing this because Nike Golf will be releasing a host of new shoe models for 2012, but I haven’t heard of this shoe being in that mix.
Tiger Woods posted this about the new TW Nike Free-Inspired prototype shoe on his web site today:
“You might have noticed I wore new shoes at Bridgestone and the PGA called Nike “Free-Inspired,” which are prototype golf shoes made by Nike Golf. It’s the first time I haven’t worn metal spikes, and the shoes were so much more comfortable on my feet. They allow me freedom of movement, enable me to release the power in my swing and are definitely here to stay.
Tobie Hatfield of Nike’s Innovation Kitchen and I came up with the idea awhile ago, and we are continuing to refine the technology and aesthetics. I wear FREE sneakers all the time for training and lifting and just asked him if they were suitable for golf. He said absolutely, and we’ve been running with the idea ever since.
This is a big step — no pun intended — in the right direction. These shoes can help a lot of people like me. They’re so comfortable, I practically live in them.”
When we get an official release date for the TW Nike Free-Inspired prototype shoe, we’ll post about it right here on NG Nation!
