UPDATE: 8.29.11 — 2012 NIKE GOLF VR PRO COMBO CB IRONS, VR PRO FORGED DUAL-SOLE WEDGES, WOMENS CLUBS
A couple of updates here:
1. Looks like Alan was right in his 2012 Equipment Rumors post, Nike Golf is adding a VR Pro split cavity set to the 2012 equipment line. The new VR Pro Combo CB set will feature a pocket cavity in the 3-5 irons (the pocket cavity 5-iron is new), and a split cavity 6-PW (the split cavity in the 8-PW is new).
2. A new wedge for 2012: The VR Pro Forged Dual-sole Wedge. The dual sole on this model looks to be similar to that seen in the VR V-Rev cast wedge, it also features Nike’s X3X Grooves and this model is forged (not cast).
3. Looks like these models are staying in the 2012 Men’s Equipment line: VR Pro Combo, VR Pro Cavity, VR Pro Blades, VR Pro Forged Wedges.
4. 2012 Nike Golf Womens’ Woods and Irons: VR Pro Cavity Irons, VR_S Driver, VR_S Fairway Woods, VR_S Hybrids, VR_S Irons
Rumors have been swirling about what might be coming to (and going from) the Nike Golf equipment line for 2012 — I found the pics below in this forum thread on GolfWRX.com that show several pages from the 2012 Nike Golf equipment catalog (all photos courtesy of GolfWRX.com):
Here are what I see as being the highlights:
VR PRO LIMITED EDITION FORGED DRIVER
Looks like the rumors are true, a 430cc forged, glued version of the VR Pro Driver looks to be part of the 2012 line. Looks to be a true forged head design made up of four pieces — face, crown, sole and hosel. The compression channel and rear of the crown around the sole plate is all red in this model (as opposed to red fading to black in the VR Pro model). Also looks like Nike is incorporating what they are calling “NexCOR” face technology into the face, described as a “multi face thickness design”. I’m sure we will be hearing more about this new face technology from Nike Golf in the coming months.
VR PRO LIMITED EDITION FAIRWAY WOODS
Looks like a glued fairway version of the VR Pro LE driver will be available in 2012 also.
Rumors have been circulating about the SQ MachSpeed line going away. Looks like Nike Golf is rolling some of the design features of the SQ MS driver, fairway wood, hybrid and irons into the new VR_S (VR Speed) line. The driver features a sole diffuser similar to the one seen in the SQ MachSpeed Black Driver. It also incorporates the STR8_FIT adjustable hosel, a Fubiki Shaft and Nike’s new NexCOR face technology.
VR_S FAIRWAY WOOD
Looks like a glued (not STR8-FIT) fairway version of the VR_S driver will be part of the new VR_S line. It also incorporates a similar sole diffuser as the VR_S Driver.
The VR_S Hybrid will also be part of the new VR_S line, and also incorporates the same sole diffuser as the driver and fairway wood.
This VR_S irons look to be incorporating similar design features as those seen in the SQ MachSpeed irons, including Nike’s PowerBow technology and a wide sole design. It also incorporates Nike’s new NexCOR face technology.
VR_S FORGED IRONS
This forged version of the VR_S irons looks to incorporate a precision steel face with X3X grooves, along with Nike’s PowerBow technology and a sightly thinner sole design than the VR_S irons.
METHOD CORE DRONE PUTTER
This high-MOI putter design is a new addition to the METHOD CORE line, which now features 6 models. This model looks to be similar to the prototype that Suzann Petterssen used to win the 2012 Safeway Classic.
METHOD CONCEPT PUTTER
Another high-MOI putter design featuring multiple materials, including a lightweight aluminum face and a high-mass steel body (read Alan’s post about the METHOD C1 here). A very cutting-edge putter design — I wonder which Nike Athlete will be the first to game it on tour?
We’ll keep our eye out for any additional information or pics of new equipment in the 2012 line, and when we hear of anything we’ll bring it to you right here on NGN. Check out the pics below and let us know what you think of what’s coming to the Nike Golf equipment line in 2012.
