There was an interesting article on Bloomberg.com yesterday announcing the Nike has obtained a patent for putting data collecting sensors on golf clubs to improve personalization. The concept is that club fitting can be made more accurate through the implementation of this new technology, which would allow club and swing data to be collected on the course under playing conditions, rather than in a hitting bay or on the range. The same could be said for golf shoe data, which could also be collected on the course. An interesting idea indeed.
The next technological implementation I could see happening in the near future is the integration of the Nike Fuelband with the NG 360 app, which could collect activity data on the course (this is my conjecture, there has been no official word of this from Nike Golf). But it will be interesting to see if this new club and shoe data collection technology will become available to the playing public any time soon.
