I had a lot of fun on Thursday at the PGA Merchandise Indoor show at the Orange County Convention Center. I spent the majority of my time checking out Nike Golf’s presence there, which included their main booth, Spirit Leatherworks’ Nike Golf Accesories booth, and the Nike Golf Footwear and Apparel meeting room.
My first stop was at the Nike Golf booth, which was the main showcase for the new VR_S Covert line. It featured very cool and sharply designed exhibits featuring all of the Covert products. In the middle of the main exhibit area was a large sculpture of the Covert icon, underneath which was one of the new VR_S staff bags with a full set of Covert equipment. All products were on display — Performance and Tour drivers, fairway woods and hybrids, as well as the new Covert irons. The booth was buzzing the entire time I was there, with a constant flow of people checking out the new Covert line. I even ran into Nike Athlete Carl Pettersson at the booth, and later saw Cheyenne Woods walking the showroom floor.
Next I headed to the Spirit Leatherworks booth to check out the new Nike Golf accessories. Spirit is an official licensee of Nike Golf, and they’ve created a fantastic line for 2013. Spirit’s Jason Calvert met me at the booth and showed me around, and the first thing I noticed was how colorful the new line is. Many of the new Nike belts feature bold colors in both leather and webbed versions, and several of the buckles also feature colorful details. There are also many designs in conservative colors — brown, black and more — so there’s something for just about anyone in the 2013 line.
After that I met with Meritt Richardson from Nike Golf’s Footwear and Apparel division, in the F&A meeting room inside the main Nike booth. First, Merritt showed me the highlights of the 2013 footwear line, including the new Lunar Control 2, the new Lunar Bandon, and the Womens’ Lunar Links and Lunar Summer Lite. Next we moved on to outerwear, with her showing me an awesome new Nike Storm-Fit jacket that will be introduced in July at the Open Championship. Then we moved on to apparel, where she introduced me to several cool pieces in the new line, including pieces from the TW collection and the Mens’ and Womens’ Spring Apparel collections. You can see these new pieces in the pics in the gallery below, and in the videos from my interview with Merritt on NG Nation’s YouTube channel (coming soon).
So it was a fun day Thursday visiting with the folks from Nike Golf, and getting a first look at some of the great products coming to retail this year. I’m looking forward to checking out the new products as they’re released this year, and seeing the Nike Athletes game them in competition this season.
