Last week, Nike Golf released the TW ’13 Limited Edition shoe for The Masters. You can read the press release here. While I was traveling last week to Dallas and Portland, I was sent a box from Nike Golf, and to my surprise I received my own pair. Here’s a closer look at the shoe and the core differences:
Outsole: Obviously the most noticeable change. The bottom of the shoe has been changed from white to green.
Footbed: Red spikes on the original have been replaced with green spikes, and the soft spikes from white to green.
Top eyelet: The top eyelet used to be red, and it is now yellow.
Tongue: Unchanged. Still has red TW logo.
Back: The strap has been changed from black to white, and the TW logo has been changed from black to red.
Insole: The insole is green, and it used to be black.
Final observations: A lot of Nike Golf fans like myself really anticipate this time of the year because Nike has set the bar so high with its limited edition shoes for Majors. Last year’s Lunar Controls were so amazing that I think many of us have come to expect more. I did get a chance to briefly chat with a Nike insider who let me know that tailoring the TW13 this year was simply more difficult because it is still in many ways a prototype shoe, making it a challenge to really change a lot of what could be changed. I know many people wanted a white toe box for this version, along with a green swoosh, and green accents, but it sounds like it could not be done. What this means however, is that because of the TW13s popularity, the TW14 will be a much more “constructed” shoe and will likely be more customizable (at least by Nike’s standards).
