Here’s a wild fact; Adam Scott, your 2013 Masters champion, won The Players in 2004. I can’t believe that was 9 years ago.
Does that mean Sergio will win the Masters in 2017? You heard it here first, folks!
This is event 2/4 in Month 5 and Event 19 overall.
There are only 3 events left in our First Half of our contest and the winner of those first 21 events wins a Nike VR_S Covert Hybrid.

MDF at Wells Fargo and he missed the cut at last week’s event, but he finished 15th and 6th the two events prior to that. This will be his 3rd trip to TPC Sawgrass where he’s finished CUT and 69th.
I’m really starting to like this kid. Maybe it’s because Russell Westbrook is out of the NBA Playoffs and I need a good Russ in my life. That said, this kid’s play this year has spoken for itself. He finished 43rd last week after a 6th place finish at Hilton Head. This is the rookie’s first trip to The Players.
Rory is 0 for 3 here. He’s never made the cut at TPC Sawgrass!!! That’s bizarre, right? He’s coming off of a Top 10 last week and a Top 25 at the Masters. I would put him on the “sleepers” list this week.
He missed the cut at his last start at Augusta, but he did finish 9th at this event in 2010.
His last 4 starts are as follows: CUT at New Orleans, 6th at the Masters, WD in Houston, 7th at Bay Hill. So, he does well in the big events. He’s screaming “Take a chance on me!”
He had a Top 10 here in 2012 and another one back in 2006. He’s made his last 4 cuts this year, most recently with a T35 at Hilton Head.
13 straight Top 25’s after a T24 at the Masters. He finished 26th at this event last year, so let’s chalk him up for a Top 25 this week.
Cut here last year, but his last two starts were 3rd and 6th place.
Watney’s last 3 starts were very good. 10th Wells Fargo, 15th New Orleans and 13th at the Masters. Throw in 3 straight made cuts at this event including 4th in 2011 and 17th in 2010 and he’s a sleeper once again.
Tiger’s last 3 starts; 4th Masters, 1st at Bay Hill, 1st at Doral. Tiger only has 1 top 10 in his last 9 starts here, but he did win in 2001.
Other Nike athletes in the field; Scott Brown, Seung-yul Noh
recent finishes – 1st New Orleans, 9th Heritage, 3rd Texas Open, 2nd Houston Open
Hot as a newly forged sword, this is Billy’s first time at this event.
Recent finishes – 9th Heritage, 4th Masters
Marc impressed some folks following up his Masters letdown with a Top 10. This will be his 4th time at this event. His best finish came last year when he finished 45th.
Recent finishes – 4th Wells Fargo, 8th Masters, 10th Houston
That’s 3 straight top 10s. He’s also finished 4th here in 2010. I think he could be a solid pick this week.
Recent finishes – 13th Masters, 4th Houston, 12th WGC Caddy
DJ hasn’t had much success at this venue. This will be his 5th visit to TPC Sawgrass where he’s missed the cut twice and finished 34th and 57th the past two years.
Coming off a Win – Billy Horschel, Adam Scott and Derek Ernst
Best finishes at this event – 1st in ’12, 13th in ’10, 14th in ’09, 16th in ’04
He’s had a quiet year, but always plays well here. I think he’s a lock for a Top 10.
Best finishes at this event – 1st in ’10, 9th in ’09, 25th in ’12
He didn’t play in 2011, so his last 3 starts here have been great. He’s also coming off of a Top 25 at Hilton Head and 11th place at the Masters.
Best finishes at this event – 6th in ’12, 4th in ’11, 2nd in ’05, 16th in ’07
His last 2 starts were 3rd at Hilton Head and 24th at the Masters. Give him the W.
Defending Champion – Matt Kuchar
Alan :: Jim Furyk, Phil Mickelson, Justin Rose, Nick Watney
Bob :: Jim Furyk, Adam Scott, Lee Westwood, Tiger Woods
Damian :: Ian Poulter, Luke Donald, Sergio Garcia and Charl Schwartzel
Damian’s Picks and Reasoning
Luke D is my pick to win. He’s always been one of my favourite golfers and he does well here.
Ian Poulter is coming off of a missed cut at the Masters, so we know he is looking for redemption for that finish. He finished 25th here last year and was a runner up in 2009.
Sergio is just a constant pick now. He’s playing so well and he has history here.
I think Schwartzel would go under the radar and win this. Toss-up between him and Rory. Rory is more of a sleeper than Schwartzel in my mind, but everyone will take Rory, so I’ll take Charl.
WD pick – Dustin Johnson.
