Back in January 2012, we announced the Nike Golf Sport Collection with some polos and pants. While the presser was nice to read, I never found these shirts on the East Coast of Canada. I would never see them at Golf Town or Nevada Bob’s, as they only ever carried the Tiger Woods or Tour Performance lines, which would be standard fit.
I recently received the Nike Golf Sport Collection Jersey Swoosh Polo from the good folks at Golf Coast Pickers, when I was complaining about Nike Golf shirts not fitting me. They (and Alan, here at NG Nation) suggested I check out the Sport and Tour Premium lines, as they are slim fit shirts.
Here’s some info on me:
I’m 5′-8″, 145 lbs and I’m a lean dude.
If a sleeve is around my elbow, I’m not a happy camper.
If I flex my arms and grab the end of a sleeve of a t-shirt or polo, I would never buy it. Why would I want half of my arms covered?
Excess fabric is not my friend.
I find the Nike Tennis polos fit great, same with Adidas and Under Armor in their regular cuts, but a regular fit Nike shirt feels like I’m swimming in a pool of Dri-Fit sheets (which actually sounds wonderful).
Here’s some details on this polo:
- Solid polo has a slim fit style
- Moisture wicking Dri-Fit technology keeps you dry and cool
- Fabric stretches for greater mobility
- Contrasting top stitching accents
- Self fabric collar and two button placket
- Short sleeves have an open hem
- Even hem
- Machine Wash
- 61% cotton • 39% polyester
Now for my review.
For me, as stated above, I can’t stand baggy shirts. The fit is dead on. It’s not too long, so it can be worn casually, but still tucks in nicely to my shorts or pants. The even hem is a nice touch as well. I’ve never been a fan of the “longer at the back because of golf” cuts.
It’s perfect. Just look for yourselves. Not too high, not too low, just like a nice high-top fade.
The 61% cotton/39% polyester blend (why not just 60/40?) is a dream. Sure, this shirt isn’t for the hottest summer days on the course, but the weight and texture of this shirt is phenomenal. It’s soft, it’s moisture-wicking and (again) it’s soft. There’s a bit of stretch to it also, which is nice on the golf course.
I’m a firm believer in the saying “It’s the little things that count.” The safety orange detail inside of the shirt and around the top button hole is a beautiful touch. Also the green dotted swoosh and line around the collar, is another pop of colour that brings a nice accent to a youthful shirt.
Hands down, this is my favourite golf shirt. It fits well, it’s soft (like a panda, I can only assume) and it is as versatile as any piece of golf attire you can own. It’s so easy to wear off of the course, I could finish a round and head to a buddy’s place for a BBQ. I haven’t had a golf polo fit me this well off of the shelf.
FINAL GRADE: A+
