Hey everybody, as most of you noticed we had some issues with the site last week. Here’s what happened:
Apparently late Tuesday or early Wednesday of last week, ngnation.com was hit by a spam attack that caused our database to be disabled. That resulted in many of you not being able to post your picks in the comments on last week’s F4 post. It also prevented Damian, Alan and I from accessing the site’s back-end dashboard control panel to see what was going on or post to the site. This was further complicated by the fact that I was on vacation last week in a remote area with limited access to cell service or internet access, delaying my ability to contact our web host and deal with the site’s database being down.
Yesterday I was able to work with our hosting provider to get the database back up and running. I also spent some time putting some preventative measures in place to (hopefully) prevent this from happening again. So far so good, the site seems to be back to normal.
If by chance we have another site outage like this, please know that we’ll deal with it as soon as possible.
And regarding the Fantasy Four contest and entering your picks, if you have trouble posting your picks in the comments, please remember you can always email them to Damian (damian at ngnation dot com) or me (bob at ngnation dot com), and as long as we receive them by the entry deadline we will add them to that week’s entries.
My sincerest apologies for any inconvenience this caused any of you last week, and thanks for your patience and understanding as we worked to resolve the problem — again hopefully this is the end of that issue. If you have have any issues with the site in the future, please feel free to let me know at bob at ngnation dot com.
