NGN reader, friend and new contributor Michael Wharton-Palmer recently took a golf trip to Australia, and spent some time playing the two courses at Barnbougle in Tasmania, The Dunes and Lost Farm. One of Michael’s goals was to take some pics of Nike Golf merchandise for us in the pro shops at various notable courses in Australia, however upon his arrival he found out that most do not carry Nike merchandise, most likely due to licensing agreements. Barnbougle is an exception, and in addition to some pics of the two courses, Michael also sent pics of a couple of Nike polos he was able to buy at Barnbougle, one from each course (pics are at the bottom of the post).
Michael did a nice write-up of his experience for us:
With two golf courses comfortably located on most lists’ top 50 in the world, Barnbougle has become one of the “must” go to places on anybody’s play list.
Located on the northern tip of Tasmania about an hour’s drive from Launceston, the locale upon arrival delivers in every way possible. Accommodation on site is top notch with food to match, but it is the two courses that bring out most of the plaudits.
Tom Doak is the architect of the Dunes course, built amongst rugged dunes and ocean views it is the testier of the two courses, but still very playable for all, with standout holes being the very difficult par 4 eighth and a series of superb par three holes.
Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw were the architects for the Lost Farm course, built as suggested on old farm land adjacent to the beachfront, that is however not to suggest the course is farm land in appearance, far from it, another marvelous links golf course with the oddity of having 20 holes, courtesy of two marvelous extra short holes, both in play.
I cannot stress enough the marvelous experience Barnbougle gives the golfer, from the wonderful service one receives from arrival to departure, to the marvelous vistas and relaxing feel in the air….all that and great looking Nike merchandise in the pro shop!!!
Thanks Michael for sharing your pics and description of this great golf experience!
