Weekend Wrap-up and FedEx Cup Standings :: 8.29

It was a really good weekend of golf, as the FedEx Cup Playoffs kicked off and Michelle Wie was defending her Canadian crown.

Studs of the Week go to Anthony Kim and Michelle Wie.

AK had to pull out a decent finish to remain in the Top 100 of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. AK pulled out a solid Top 25 and Michelle defended in a big way.

Here’s who is moving on the in the FedEx Cup Playoffs;

  • Charl Schwartzel (28)

Pretty huge weekend for Nike Golf, I would say. On Saturday, AK and Dyson were both in the lead of their respective tournaments. It was a bit of a no-contest in terms of the LPGA and Senior’s majors, but still a fun weekend overall.

Weekend Wrap-up :: 7.24

It was a pretty big weekend for golf in general.

  • AK (Anthony Kim) had high hopes in Canada coming off of a great Open finish, but followed up his 69 with an 81. AK was also DQ’d for signing an incorrect scorecard. Try googling “Anthony Kim DQ Canadian Open” – hopefully it gets you here. That’s my joke for the day.
  • Charl Schwartzel is on a tear. He picked up his 9th Top 10 of the year. He’s played 18 events and has 2 finishes outside of the Top 30.
  • Suzann Pettersen had an emotional weekend after the attacks in Norway. However, she still dominated with a 69-68 on the weekend for a great Top 10 at the “soon to be” 5th LPGA Major (Evian Masters).
  • Scott Jamieson bounced back from his Open Championship missed cut, with a T13. That’s 3 Top 25s and 2 Top 10s in his last 5 starts.
  • Pablo Martin and Richard Finch picked up Top 10s at the same event, Nordea Masters.
  • John Cook and Bob Tway picked up some decent finishes at the Senior Open Championship. They finished 11th and T12.
  • Tommy Fleetwood also picked up a Top 10 on the European Challenge Tour. He’s sitting at 29th on the Challenge Tour Rankings…just outside the Top 25 to advance to the European Tour.

Weekend Wrap-up :: 7.11

Big week leading up to the Open Championship. Scott Jamieson was in contention down to the wire at the Scottish Open.

  • Vegas had another up and down week on the PGA Tour. However, he’s shown progress in the past 2 events, after posting lackluster results following his win. His first two rounds were  68 64, but finished with  75-75 on the weekend.
  • With AK and Dyson getting into The Open Championship through other players withdrawals, Scott Jamieson birdied the 53rd and 54th holes of the Scottish Open to make it in. Good for Scotty J, as he’s had 2 Top 3 finishes in his past 3 events. I’m very glad he made it to Royal St. George’s.
  • Michelle Wie made the cut at the US Open with a birdie on her final hole of the 2nd round. Sadly, Amanda Blumenherst went +3 on her final 4 holes and missed the cut by 1 stroke.
  • Meanwhile, Suzann picks up another quality finish in a major, with her T15. She finished T2 last year, T6 in ’09 and T13 in ’08. She does very well at the US Open.
  • Also, Kevin Tway, son of Nike Staffer, Bob Tway, missed the cut at the John Deere Classic.

Below are all of the scores from the Nike Golf Athletes from this past weekend;

PGA Tour :: John Deere Classic

Weekend Wrap-up :: 7.04

Busy week for the Nike Golf staff this weekend, as they almost put two wins on the board.

  • John Cook picks up his 3rd win of the season. However, he’s only 4th in the Charles Schwab Cup standings..most likely because his only Top 10’s are wins.
  • James Morrison was tied for the lead after the 3rd round of the Alstom Open de France. Good for him, as he was on a streak of 4 straight missed cuts.
  • Carl Pettersson has been the Top Nike athlete in 3 of the past 4 PGA Tour events. He’s doing great and having a really consistent year. He’s 59th in the FedEx Up standings.
  • Carly Booth JUST missed the cut this year. She’s not having a great year with a lot of missed cuts. However, she is so close to making all of these cuts. Tough go for the young lass.

Here are all of the scores from the Nike Golf Athletes this past week;

PGA Tour :: AT&T National

Weekend Wrap-up :: 6.12

Light wrap-up…but…

  • Scott Brown stays hot and should be a lock to join the PGA Tour next year. He shot a 63 on Saturday.
  • Bob Tway also shot a 63 on Saturday. Neat.
  • Stephen Ames and Carl Pettersson show up BIG in Memphis each with a T8.
  • I think Michelle Wie is going to win a major soon. She tied with Suzann Pettersen this week, and seems to be able to keep up with her every week. Nike Golf could have the Top 2 female golfers in the world at some point in the next few years.
  • I was hoping for a good sign from Anthony Kim this week. He’s my sleeper pick for the US Open, as he has an amazing record at Congressional. I’m happy that he followed up his 75 with a 70, so at least that’s something, right?
  • Tommy Fleetwood continues his official “STUD” status on the Challenge Tour. He has 7 straight Top 25’s and is 17th on the Challenge Tour Rankings. Top 20 get to the European Tour.

Weekend Wrap-up :: 5.30

Not much of a recap this week.

  • Simon Dyson comes up big in the BMW PGA and cards back-to-back Top 10s. He also has 3 top 10’s in his last 5 starts, making his last 6 cuts.
  • Charl Schwartzel missed the cut in a bad way this week. Maybe that’s a good thing as he heads to Muirfield with a few days to get over the time change.
  • Suzann Pettersen cards a Top 10 and Amanda Blumenherst gets a Top 20 on the LPGA Tour.
  • Frances Bondad and Kristie Smith tie for a Top 20 in Slovakia.
  • On the Champions Tour Major scene, Bob Tway and John Cook also tie (with a T13).
  • Tommy Fleetwood continues to be solid on the Challenge Tour with 5 straight Top 25’s (including a T20 on the European Tour). The kid is legit. He’s currently sitting at 17th on the Challenge Tour money list.

Big weekend. Big win. I’m a G’Lover, you’re a G’Lover.

It was actually a huge weekend. A bunch of Top 10’s in the PGA and the European Tour. Full breakdown below.

  • Simon Dyson and Scott Jamieson are hot. Dyson has 5 straight made cuts with 2 Top 10’s. Meanwhile Jamieson, 5 of 6 made cuts, 3 Top 10’s in there and a T11. Whoooo.
  • To my surprise, John Cook didn’t get a top 10! Still got a Top 25. This is his year to win the Charles Schwab cup, since Langer is out.
  • Chris Nallen and Scott Brown continues their solid play on the Nationwide. I think both of them will make The 25.
  • Carly Booth hasn’t made a cut thus far in the 2011 LET. She’s 13th in putting. It’ll happen eventually and she’ll get a win.
  • Tommy Fleetwood is tearing up the Challenge Tour. In his past 4 starts he has 2 Top 10’s and a T16.
