Nike Golf Athletes Carl Pettersson and Carly Booth Bring Home Big Wins on Their Respective Tours

Pettersson and Booth Sink Birdies with the Revolutionary 20XI Golf Ball and a Nike Method Putter

It was a successful weekend for Nike Golf as athletes Carl Pettersson and Carly Booth secure wins at the RBC Heritage and the Dinard Ladies Open, respectively.

Pettersson’s performance was solid throughout the entire tournament, making major moves in the second round with a 6-under par, 65. He secured his victory with a 69 in the final round to win the tournament by a five-stroke margin.

Using the revolutionary Nike 20XI S golf ball and a Nike Method Prototype belly-length putter, Pettersson was ranked first in greens in regulation, putts per green in regulation, as well as birdies for the tournament.

“The 20XI S has given me great consistency and great feel around the greens,” said Pettersson. “I have also gained 10-15 yards off the tee with this golf ball.”

The new Nike 20XI ball features a technology never before seen in the golf industry. This game-changing technology replaces conventional rubber cores with a radical new resin material- faster and lighter than traditional rubber cores.  Nike’s resin core technology accomplishes three critical performance components that golfers dream to have in a golf ball: More distance off the tee, straight ball flight, and increased control around the greens.

When asked if he had changed anything in his equipment, Pettersson said:  “I put in a new putter.  I’ve used it on and off before.  It’s a Nike Method long putter, and I used it in Houston, finished second there.  I putted well all week.  So it puts a nice roll on it.”

Rounding out Pettersson’s bag were clubs from the VR franchise, including a 4-iron from Nike’s new VR_S line.

Also etching a win in the record books as a Nike athlete was Carly Booth, who recorded her first professional victory in France at the Dinard Ladies Open on the Ladies European Tour Access Series developmental tour. Sinking birdies with a Nike Method 003 putter and the 20XI X ball, the 19-year-old stormed the leaderboard on the back nine of the final round. With a stunning final round performance, Booth put herself in playoff position, winning the tournament on the first playoff hole.

Booth also performed with a full bag of Nike Golf equipment including the Nike VR_S Driver and VR Pro Combo irons.

Weekend Winners :: Carl Pettersson and Carly Booth Make It Count

This was a very big weekend for Nike Golf. Following a great weekend at the Masters, Carl Pettersson picked up a win at Hilton Head, host of the RBC Heritage. Carl blew away the field holding his 3rd round lead and winning by 5 strokes.

This was Carl’s 5th PGA Tour win and his first since 2010.

Meanwhile, on the Ladies European Tour, 19 year old Carly Booth picked up her first professional win at the Dinard Ladies Open on the LET Access Series (similar to the PGA Nationwide Tour).

While Booth didn’t have the lead heading into the final round like Carl, she was 7 shots back and put up a great final round. From LETaccess.com

Seven places behind the leader Ricordeau at the start of the third and final round, the 19-year-old from Comrie in Perthshire had a two under 67 in cold and windy conditions.
She hit a pitching wedge to five feet and holed the putt for her first birdie of the day at the par-four third hole, but was back to level for the front nine after missing the green and making a bogey at the ninth.
She birdied the 14th and 15th, sinking putts of 40 and eight feet respectively, before a scorer on the 16th hole informed her that she was lying in second place.
She then birdied the 17th after hitting a 56 degree wedge to 12 feet from the flag before drama on the 18th green ensued.
…..
Booth three-putted the par-four 18th at Dinard Golf Club in Brittany to drop back into a tie with Ricordeau on one under par in the second Ladies European Tour Access Series event of the 2012 season.  She then birdied the same hole in the play-off after hitting a punch eight-iron to six feet.

Big win for Ms. Booth.

Nike Golf Athletes at the 2012 Masters Recap

I will start out by saying that while the 2011 Masters had one of the most exciting Masters finishes of all time, the 2012 Masters was right up there with it.

While part of me wanted to see Charl Schwartzel put the green jacket on close friend and fellow South African, Louis Oosthuizen, I can’t complain about Bubba getting a great win.

Only one Nike Golf athlete made it into the Top 25 and no, it wasn’t Tiger Woods or Charl Schwartzel, it was Francesco Molinari. Francesco now has 5 straight Top 20′s and 8 of his last 9 events.

Speaking of Tiger, he will rebound. I personally think that he was trying to force shots at Augusta like he normally would. But he obviously can’t hit those same shots.. Tiger will rebound and I think he’ll get at least one more win this season. Let’s also note that Tiger finished T41 at the Masters before, when he was low amateur in 1995. Other than missing the cut in 1996, this was the first time he was outside the Top 25.

I was impressed with Kevin Chappell. This was an under-the-radar signing by Nike Golf and this was a decent follow-up to his T3 at the 2011 U.S. Open.

The boys did good to get 9 athletes into the first Major of the year, but hopefully they can capitalize and #MakeItCount in the rest of 2012.

Nike Golf Athletes at the Masters :: Round 3 Recap and Round 4 Tee Times

While the early news of the day with Tiger’s good round that could have been, Phil, Hanson, Kuchar, Ooshuizen and others were stealing the show by the end of the day.

Francesco Molinari had a great day, almost matching his 69 on Day 1. He has a great chance to get a top 10.

Here are the scores for the Nike Golf athletes at the 2012 Masters;

Check the full leaderboard here >>

Francesco Molinari’s round was expected, as he was over 80% in Fairways and Greens heading into Saturday.

Kevin Chappell had a nice rebound round as well with 4 birdies and 3 bogeys.

Ross Fisher had a decent round as well. He had 5 birdies, but added 4 bogeys and a double. Fisher hasn’t been putting well, even though he’s been hitting greens and fairways.

I can’t comment too much more on Tiger. Cink didn’t even have a birdie on the round, and Schwartzel was on the rebound, but bogeys on all 3 rounds on the 18th hole can’t help.

Nike Golf Athletes at the Masters :: Round 2 Recap and Round 3 Tee Times

While conditions got better throughout the day, it was a tough scoring day for the Swoosh Squad. Here are the round 2 scores from the 9 Nike athlete field at Augusta;

It was a tough day overall, as all Nike athletes shot +3 or worse. Three of which missed the cut;  Paul Casey shot +3, Lucas Glover shot +9, Simon Dyson shot +5.

Ross Fisher had 8 bogeys on the day, double what he had in Round 1.

Tiger Woods starte the day with birdies on 2 of the first 3 holes but didn’t seem to have the right stuff after that.  He had 5 bogeys after that. Tiger is only hitting 50% of fairways and just over 50% of greens. He needs to step his game up.

Charl Schwartzel started in a similar fashion with birdies on 2 of the first 4 holes, but had 5 bogeys after that to end his second round.

Kevin Chappell didn’t have a great day, but ended birdie-birdie-par-par which is a great finish for anyone. He will look to build on that momentum tomorrow. Kevin is hitting 75% of fairways, which always helps.

Stewart Cink’s putter isn’t quite on. He’s hitting over 80% in Fairways and Greens. That’s incredible.

Francesco Molinari is the only one on the Top 25.  He’s on 89% of Fairways and 75% of Greens. I think his scores will come around in the next two days and he’ll stay in the Top 25.

Nike Golf Athletes at the Masters :: Round 1 Recap and Round 2 Tee Times

Round 1 is in the books and it was an exciting day. Maybe the most exciting news was that Luke Donald was almost DQ’d, but he’s in at +3 so that’s a good thing.

Here is the first round leaderboard for your 9 Nike Golf athletes in the field;

check out the full leaderboard here >>

Francesco Molinari had a great day with 4 birdies and 1 bogey. He’s coming into the Masters on 4 straight Top 20 finishes and has played well in WGC events, so it shouldn’t be a surprise to see him here.

Tiger Woods actually had a very good day and was -2 for a good stretch on the back 9. However, Tiger bogeyed 17 and 18 to finish at even par, with 3 birdies and 3 bogies.

Defending champ Charl Schwartzel had a similar round with 4 birdies and 4 bogeys, but alternated birdie-bogey throughout the round, so the lowest he got to was -1.

Solid rounds from Ross Fisher, Stewart Cink and Kevin Chappell. Meanwhile, Glover, Casey and Dyson look to bounce back tomorrow.

Round 2 Groups and Tee Times

Fisher is at -1. Palmer at +3. Frazar at +1.

Stricker at -1. Paddy at -1. Cink at -1.

Badds at -1. KTK at +2. G’Lover at +3.

Full Pics of Nike Swag for the 2012 Masters

It’s official now. Tiger Woods posted on his Facebook account that the custom kicks and Nike gear for the 2012 Masters is a personalized pair of Air Force 1s (aka AF1 ’82s) and a silver Ripstop running jacket.

The commemorative shoe features the player’s last name on the left outside heel and the year  and “Augusta, GA” on the right outside heel. The paint job is a green floral print and the shoe is otherwise a white/white colorway.

The Ripstop running jacket is customized with the player’s name (with Woods getting special treatment for his four Masters victories), as well as “Augusta, GA” on the left sleeve in green and “2012″ on the back right. The colorway  is Jetstream/Nano Gray/Reflective Silver and is made of lightweight, water- and wind-resistant Storm-FIT 1 fabric, which offers great breathability, durability, and a soft hand for comfort.
