The field is so good this week. I think it would be hard for me to go wrong. This is the first contest post, so submit your Final Four in the comments below! Let’s get started.
NIKE GOLF: Four To Watch
Stephen Ames
He has been consistent this year and his record at this event has been great. In recent years he’s finished: 1, 5, 13 and 2. He might do well this week.
Paul Casey
Casey looks to come back after some time off from his injury. Prior to his injury he was doing great with 4 straight Top 10′s through 6 starts and he had a T14 last year at TPC Sawgrass.
Tiger Woods
I think he’ll rebound quite nicely here after a MC. He hasn’t won this tournament in a long time though. But after his MC at the Open last year, he came back to win the next week. I won’t be surprised if he comes back with a vengeance.
Anthony Kim
No one is hotter than AK (maybe Furyk), but with a 7, 17, 3, 1, 22 and 2. He’s on fire.
THE FIELD: Four Who Are Hot
Phil Mickelson
Last two starts he finished 1st and 2nd. He has a chance to become the Number 1 player in the world, so look for Phil to come out blazing. He also won this even in ’07.
Lee Westwood
38th last week, but still has 3 Top 10′s in 5 starts on Tour. He’s pretty much always hot. Doesn’t really have a record at Sawgrass.
Ernie Els
First on the money list this year. 9th at Ballantine’s two weeks ago with a couple wins and a T18 at the Masters. Also had a T6 in ’08 and usually makes the cut.
Jim Furyk
T5 here last year and 2 wins in his last 5 starts. He’s second on the money list and definitely can get a win this week. He has history and his game behind him.
THE FIELD: Four Who Have History
Ian Poulter
2nd place last year, 21st the year before and 28th in ’07. I’m seeing a pattern and I’m taking Poulter to win it this year.
Sergio Garcia
No one has made more money at Sawgrass than Sergio. T14 in ’06, 2nd in ’07, 1st in ’08 and 22nd in ’09. He hasn’t been great this year though.
Fred Couples
One of the only two time winners here. He’s been playing well this week and he doesn’t care about age. If his back holds up, look for him in the Top 10, at least for the first few days.
Henrik Stenson
Four starts here with 3 Top 10′s including a win. He’s had back to back Top 25 finishes in Europe, and he might do well here again.
Final Four: Paul Casey, Ian Poulter, Jim Furyk and Tiger Woods
I think Ames can do well here and it hurts be to leave AK and Phil off of this list. I think they’ll be in the Top 10, but lately the winners of this tournament have finished in the Top 10 the previous year, so that’s my justification. It’s hard to pick, but I try my best.
Give me your Final Four below!
Remember, you need to have one Nike golfer and the standings will be posted with the winner being announced at the end of the month!
Pick with your heart,
D.
