Fantasy Four :: John Deere Classic

Well, there’s two clear front-runners this week; Jason Day and Steve Stricker. Honestly, I think one of them will win. If not one of them, then maybe Bryce Molder, Stewart Cink or Heath Slocum.

This is the second event of Month 7. For a refresher on the rules, hit the link — Contest Guidelines and leave your Fantasy Four below (don’t forget your ONE Nike Athlete).

Here is the recap from the last event >>

Stewart Cink
Cink has 3 missed cuts all year; 1st event of the year, The Masters and The US Open (his last event). He’s bounced with with Top 60′s in those first two…how will be bounce back this week? Could be a very good sleeper this week.  He has played well here..just not recently. T8 in ’04, T29 in ’05 – that was his last two appearances here.

Jhonattan Vegas
Started off well last week..faded again though. Hopefully he can bounce back here.

Joseph Bramlett
cut last week after 74-74.  Hasn’t finished better than T42 this year, but did have all 4 rounds in the 60′s at the Travelers.

Kevin Kisner
Had his best finish of the year at St. Jude, but followed it up with a barely missed cut of 70-70. Probably the 2nd best option on the list based on recent play.

other Nike athletes to choose from :: none

Charles Howell III
recent finishes – T3 AT&T National, T3 St. Jude, T22 Memorial, T20 HPBNC
He’s definitely the 2nd hottest in the field this week after Day. T39 here last year

Bryce Molder
recent finishes – T8 AT&T National, T6 Travelers
T11 here last year. He could definitely pull out the win this week.

Chris Stroud
recent finishes – T6 AT&T National, T17 Travelers
I don’t even think I knew who Chris Stroud was. I’m impressed with his T12 at The Players. T15 here in ’09, DNP in ’10. SLEEPER!

John Merrick
recent finishes – T15 AT&T National, T9 Travelers, T11 St. Jude
He’s quietly playing really well. He’s made 10/12 cuts this year. Can’t complain about it. T39 here last year.

*also hot

Jason Day - in his past 6 starts, he has 5 Top 10′s and a T31.
T15 here last year. T15 here in ’09.

Kenny Perry
Best finishes at this event – T15 in ’10, 1st in ’08, T11 in ’07
Kenny “Katy” Perry (he kissed a girl…and he liked it). He’s having a weird year. That’s all I will say.

Steve Stricker
Best finishes at this event – 1st in ’10, 1st in ’09, T4 in ’04
Hot hot hot. Someone tell me how he doesn’t win! Jason Day playoff? Sounds good to me.

Jonathan Byrd
Best finishes at this event – T21 in ’10, 1st in ’07, T13 in ’05, T2 in’03
Byrd has played well this year — could make some magic happen.

Matt Jones
Best finishes at this event – 5th in ’10, T5 in ’09
He always plays well here (in the past 2 years). He’s not playing well lately, as he’s on 4 straight missed cuts. However, he was on a nice streak of a T6, T21 and T19 before that. This could be a very big breakthrough week for him. I’d like to see someone take a gamble on him.

Alan :: Jason Day, Steve Marino, Jonathan Byrd and Jhonattan Vegas
Bob :: Jason Day, Steve Stricker, David Toms and Jhonattan Vegas
Damian :: Jason Day, Steve Stricker, Heath Slocum and Stewart Cink

Other big names in the field: Louis Oosthuizen, David Toms, Brian Gay, Steve Marino, John Daly..check out the full field.

There are the obvious this week, but you really need to look at Matt Jones, Bryce Molder, Heath Slocum and John Merrick. I really think one of these guys could steal a win.

I think the most popular 4 this week will be; Stricker/Day/ZJ/Cink

Fantasy Four :: AT&T National

At first glance, I didn’t think much of this event. However, there’s lots of dudes with a great chance to win this week. I won’t cry about Tiger not being here. Watney, Mahan, O’Hair, Fowler, Rose, Moore and many more are enough for me.

The big key last year was who was hot. This year, we have a bunch of guys with Top 25′s last year who are playing well now. Such names who made the cut last year and playing well now are; Carl Pettersson, Ryan Moore, Bo Van Pelt, Webb Simpson, Nick Watney, J.B. Holmes and maybe some others.

This is the first event of Month 7. For a refresher on the rules, hit the link — Contest Guidelines and leave your Fantasy Four below (don’t forget your ONE Nike Athlete).

Here is the recap from the last event >>

Anthony Kim
AK’s last 3 rounds; 70-69-69.  AK hasn’t shot 2 back to back rounds in the 60′s since the end of March when he was T13 at the Shell Houston Open. AK has a good history at this event, but didn’t play this course last year because of his thumb injury. I’m looking for big things from AK this week. The stars are aligning. Even though he’s a 111:1 favourite to win.

Lucas Glover
T25 here last year. Missed the cut last week after a 70-71. Hasn’t really shown up since his win at Wells Fargo.

Carl Pettersson
6th here last year. T24 last week, T8 at St. Jude. He’s a contender this week. You’ll see similar trends below with BVP, Watney and Moore.

Jhonattan Vegas
Vegas has put up T33 and T32 in his last two event. Last time he was better than that was T31 at WGC Cadillac with the best in the world. Vegas has shot a 66 in each of his last 2 tournaments. All 4 rounds in the 60′s last week. Watch out, Vegas is juicin.

other Nike athletes to choose from :: Stephen Ames, Justin Leonard and Joseph Bramlett

2 of these guys stay on the list this week.

Webb Simpson
recent finishes – T13 Travelers, T14 US Open, T7 Memorial, T21 Wells Fargo, 2nd Zurich Classic
Maybe one of the hottest guys in the field this week. T41 here last year.

Bo Van Pelt
recent finishes – T13 Travelers, T14 US Open, T13 Memorial, 3rd Crowne Plaza
T11 here last year. He could definitely pull out the win this week.

Nick Watney
recent finishes – T13 Travelers, CUT US Open, T8 HPBNC, T4 Players
Great bounce back for Watney. He had all 4 rounds in the 60′s and picked up another great finish. Sitting 5th on the FedEx Cup standings. Also finished T7 here last year.

Ryan Moore
recent finishes – T2 Travelers
He finished with a 63. That’s hot. Aside from MC at the US Open, he hasn’t missed a cut all year and is playing very consistently Moore actually has a history at this event..which just means that he plays well this time of year. Coming off of a T2 last week, he’s my pick to win this week. . Let’s not forget his T5 at the World Match Play. Best finishes here – 2nd in ’10, T11 in ’09, T25 in ’07

*Patrick Cantlay
The kid’s on back to back Top 25′s. Boom!

only last year counts as history in my books. This is year 2 at Aronimink. Thanks, Congressional.

I believe last year, looking back, everyone who finished well, was playing well. None of the Top 3 were surprising giving their recent finishes.  I think that will mostly be true this year.

Justin Rose
Best finishes here – 1st in ’10
When Justin won here last year, he was coming off of a win and a T9.  He had the hot hand and that got him the win. His 2nd round was a 64 – lowest in the tournament.  Think it will happen again this year?

Jeff Overton
Best finishes here – 3rd in ’10
Ovi was the hottest last year, but his finish here came after a missed cut. This year, he’s finding his groove. He’s had some flashes of brilliance. He had his second Top 10 of the year at Byron Nelson and is coming off a made cut at the US Open. That’s always a good confidence boost.

Charlie Wi
Best finishes here -4th in ’10
Just like the Top 3, Wi was coming off of a Top 25 before his 4th place finish here.

Sean O’Hair
It’s his home course. T11 here last year.  I think I remember he was the favourite to win last year, too (other than Tiger).

Others in the Top 10 last year (and in the field this week) :: J.B. Holmes, Marc Leishman, Nick Watney, Vijay Singh, Carl Pettersson

Alan :: J.B. Holmes, Jason Dufner, Adam Scott and Carl Pettersson
Bob :: Ryan Moore, Nick Watney, Webb Simpson and Carl Pettersson
Damian :: Ryan Moore, Nick Watney, Webb Simpson and Anthony Kim

Other big names in the field: Hunter Mahan, Ben Crane, Rickie Fowler, K.J. Choi, Robert Allenby, Ricky Barnes, Jim Furyk, Bill Haas, Ryuji Imada, Webb Simpson, Steve Marino, Camilo Villegas, Peter Uihlein

This is always a fun event. Sure, Watney, Moore and Mahan will be the favourites..but maybe Sean O’Hair will reach the level that Mahan and Watney have. Maybe Rickie Fowler comes up big. Choi has been a beast and it’s just a fun event!

Every golfer in the “FOUR ON FIRE” Category is hot and has decent history at this event. One of them may win, too!

I think the most popular 4 this week will be; Mahan/Fowler/Simpson, Watney, Moore and Pettersson.

Fantasy Four :: Travelers Championship

Rebound Week! There are some guys looking to redeem themselves at the US Open this week. Most notably; Nick Watney, Jim Furyk, Ian Poulter, Hunter Mahan and others. However, these guys should all come back strong. Watney hasn’t played this event since 2007, but here he is.

This is the final event of Month 6. For a refresher on the rules, hit the link — Contest Guidelines and leave your Fantasy Four below (don’t forget your ONE Nike Athlete).

Here is the recap from the last event >>

Last year we had 2 Nike Athletes in this event. This year, we have 7! I’m very surprised that Stewart Cink isn’t playing this week. He’s won here twice and has a bunch of Top 10′s. Oh well!

Anthony Kim
He played 4 rounds at Congressional and I think that helped. He ended with a final round of 70 and let’s hope he keeps some momentum. T11 here in ’09.

Lucas Glover
Coming off of a T42 at the US Open, where he finished with a 70 and had a round of 69, too. Finished T11 here in ’09 and T19 in ’08. Looks good to me.

Carl Pettersson
He’s rested and coming off of a T8 at the St. Jude. Pettersson has a decent record here with T35 in ’10, T37 in ’08, T15 in ’07 and T31 in ’06. Solid and consistent! Sleeper alerty!

Stephen Ames
Also coming off of a T8 at the St. Jude, Ames hasn’t played here before. He followed up his other Top 10 this year with a missed cut.

other Nike athletes to choose from :: Jhonattan Vegas, Kevin Kisner and Justin Leonard

Webb Simpson
recent finishes – T14 US Open, T7 Memorial, T21 Wells Fargo, 2nd Zurich Classic
In his past 5 starts he has 2 Top 10′s and 4 Top 25′s. He hasn’t missed a cut in 2 months and has 3 made cuts at this event (T57 last year, T26 in ’09 and T37 in ’08).

Brandt Jobe
recent finishes – T23 US Open, T2 Memorial, T20 HPBNC
What can I tell you about Brandt Jobe? Nothing! T54 here in ’02 and cut here in ’08. He’s playing well though.

Bo Van Pelt
recent finishes – T14 US Open, T13 Memorial, 3rd Crowne Plaza
Good streak for Bo. Also has a good history at this event. T34 last yare, T9 in ’09, CUT in ’08, T6 in ’07, T25 in ’05, T21 in ’04. I think he has a great chance to win this week.

Brandt Snedeker
recent finishes – T11 US Open, T15 St. Jude, T16 Crowne Plaza
Drew, you should pick him again this week! BSneds missed the cut here last year, but had a T47 in ’09. Another good sleeper this week.

Hunter Mahan
Best finishes hereT4 in ’09, T2 in ’08, 1st in ’07, T2 in ’06, T21 in ’04
Cut last year, but no biggie, me thinks. Hunters only missed cuts have come at the Majors this year, and you have think he’s mad about that. I’m looking for him to bounce back big time.

Ben Curtis
Best finishes here – T13 in ’10, T4 in ’09, T13 in’08, T21 in ’06, T4 in ’05
Ben is coming off of a T14 at the US Open in addition to his great history at River Highlands.
Curtis is a big sleeper this week at can definitely make a splash.

Bubba Watson
Best finishes here – 1st in ’10, T14 in ’09, T6 in ’08
Great record here and coming off of a T63 at the US Open. He’s only missed one cut all year. Meredith, your boy is in good shape!

Kenny Perry
Best finishes here - 1st in 09, T6 in ’08, T15 in ’07, 7th in ’05
Probably a really big long shot this week, but he has the history.

Others with History; Watney (T9 in ’05 ,T9 in ’06), Ryan Moore (T13 in ’10, T4 in ’09, T2 in ’06), Vijay Singh (T13 in ’10, T5 in ’08, T4 in ’07)

Alan :: Ryan Moore, Bubba Watson, Ian Poulter and Anthony Kim
Bob :: Hunter Mahan, Bubba Watson, Brandt Snedeker and Carl Pettersson
Damian :: Hunter Mahan, Webb Simpson, Lucas Glover and Anthony Kim

Other big names in the field: Ian Poulter, Jim Furyk, Martin Laird, David Toms, Tim Clark, Geoff Ogilvy, Zach Johnson, Ben Crane, Padraig Harrington, Sean O’Hair, J.B. Holmes, Kevin Na, Heath Slocum, Ricky Barnes, Aaron Baddeley

I’m leaving 2 of my 4 picks from the US Open the same…Genius? I really want to take Ryan Moore and Nick Watney this week. It’ll be tough not too. I’d really like to take a gamble on Poulter too. Watney could easily win here, but I’m pretty much picking Mahan over Watney… maybe because this course is known for guys having a good track record here and multiple winners.

I think the most popular 4 this week will be; Mahan, Watney, Bubba and Pettersson.

Fantasy Four :: 2011 U.S. Open

US OPEN! CONGRESSIONAL! Sleeper city.

We have the US Open here from 1997, the AT&T National from 07-09 and the 2005 Booz Allen Classic. Tiger’s not here, so let’s go wild with the picks, folks!!!

This is the third event of Month 6. For a refresher on the rules, hit the link — Contest Guidelines and leave your Fantasy Four below (don’t forget your ONE Nike Athlete).

Here is the recap from the last event >>

Anthony Kim
Record at Congressional; 3rd in ’09, 1st in ’08, T25 in ’07. Record at US Opens, T16 in ’09, T26 in ’08, T21 in ’07. AK turns 26 on Sunday. Let’s hope he’s still playing.

Stewart Cink
He’s playing amazing golf. He’s made 12 of his last 13 cuts, averaging 20th place over his last 5 starts. Cink finished T13 here in ’97. Could be the safe Nike play this week.

Lucas Glover
Won the US Open in ’09, but I put him here because of his play at Congressional, also. T12 in ’07, T5 in ’09, so you know he likes the course and can play in US Open conditions.

Francesco Molinari
Francesco is coming off of a T8 in Italy, T50 at the BMW PGA and a 5th place at the Volvo Match Play. Had a T13 at the US Open in ’09.

other Nike athletes to choose from :: Paul Casey and Charl Schwartzel.

Shouldn’t Vegas be playing? He won a PGA Tour event this year..oh, well.

Lee Westwood
recent finishes –T11 St. Jude, 2nd BMW PGA, T9 Volvo Match Play, 1st Ballantines,
Westwood controlled last week. He’s hunting for a major this week and finished T19 here in ’97. In his last 7 majors, he has 3 Top 10′s and 7 Top 25′s. He’s a lock.

Steve Stricker
recent finishes – 1st Memorial, T12 Players, T13 Zurich, T11 Masters, T4 Houston, T18 WGC Caddy
Stricker is playing great, solid golf. T36 here in ’97. T2 here in ’07.

Luke Donald
recent finishes – T7 Memorial, 1st BMW PGA, 2nd Volvo Match Play, T4 Players, T8 Zurich, 2nd Heritage, T4 Masters, T6 WGC Caddy, 1st WGC Match Play
Does his history really matter here? He has a pair of Top 20′s in US Open’s, but this is the only major he doesn’t have a Top 10 in. THis should be that year.

Matt Kuchar
recent finishes – T2 Memorial, T6 HPBNC, T16 Colonial
Kuchar’s a rocket. T6 at last year’s US Open. Top 30′s in each of the last 6 majors.

Others playing well; Alvaro Quiros, K.J. Choi, Nick Watney

I’m putting a twist on the History section this week. Few things to note;

History at Congressional is the 1997 US Open, 2005 Booz Allen Classic and the AT&T National from 2007-2009.

Over the past 4 years at the US Open, 5 players are averaging Top 25′s (min 3 appearances) - Graeme McDowell, Peter Hanson, Jim Furyk, Phil Mickelson and Anthony Kim.

Jim Furyk has nothing but Top 10′s at Congressional (97 US Open, 07-09 AT&T National) T8, T3, T3, T7.

Stewart Cink and Ernie Els were T2 after the second round of the 1997 US Open, with Els going on to win.

Other winners at Congressional include; K.J. Choi (2007 AT&T National) and Sergio Garcia (2005 Booz Allen)

Alan :: Steve Stricker, Matt Kuchar, Rory McIlroy and Francesco Molinari
Bob :: Steve Stricker, Phil Mickelson, Luke Donald and Stewart Cink
Damian :: Hunter Mahan, Ryan Moore, Lee Westwood and Anthony Kim

I don’t mind that Tiger isn’t playing. I would love to take Kaymer and Kuchar on my bench (and Donald of course) . I’m fully confident that one of those 7 dudes will win this week…I’ll throw McIlroy in there, too..since Moore plays well at US Opens and at Congressional. ..it was a toss up between them.

Stephen Ames
T15 here last year, T13 in ’08. 4 straight missed cuts though.

Carl Pettersson
surprising missed cut last week. Cut here in ’09.

Jhonattan Vegas
He’s been really quiet since February. 1 made cut in last 7 starts.

Anthony Kim
Two straight made cuts, last start here in ’07 was T25. Not bad!

other Nike athletes to choose from :: Kevin Kisner, Joseph Bramlett

Lee Westwood
recent finishes –2nd BMW PGA, T9 Volvo Match Play, 1st Ballantines,
Defending champ is healthy and hot.

David Toms

Amazing streak. Won here in ’03 and ‘04

Sergio Garcia
recent finishes – T20 HPBNC, T16 Crowne, T12 Players
T4 here in ‘08

Jonathan Byrd
recent finishes – T7 Memorial, T41 Players, 2nd Wells Fargo
2 top 10’s in his last 3 are good enough for me.

Brian Gay
best finishes – T15 in ’10, 1st in ’09, 4th in 07, T16 in ’06, T5 in ’04
good record here. Playing decent.

Robert Allenby

- Damian, Thursday 2:14pm ADT

the Memorial! Muirfield! Jack! Ohio! Jim Tressel!

I’m excited for this event. So many guys are ON FIRE! This should be a treat to watch. Donald, Watney, Kuchar, Stricker, Mahan, Schwartzel, McIlroy, Mickelson, Furyk and more look to get in shape for the US Open.

Here is the recap from the last event >>

Stewart Cink
Cink’s record here is as good as they come.  T8 last year, T8 in ’09, T30 in ’08, T5 in ’07, T12 in ’06, with three straight Top 10s in 01/02/03. Hasn’t missed a cut in 11 years here, averaging 19th place. Combine that with his recent play (5 straight made cuts, 1 Top 10, 4 Top 30s) and I think you’re looking at a winner.

Carl Pettersson
Unlike Cink,  Pettersson has won this event. Petterson won back in 2006. He followed up his win with a T31 in ’07 and a T10 in ’08. Cut in ’09, but T28 last year. Big sleeper this week. He’s also on a 5 made cut streak (1 Top 20, 5 Top 40′s).

Charl Schwartzel
Schwartzel is coming off of a bad missed cut at the BMW PGA Championship. He should bounce back fairly well here. DNP last year, T27 in ’09 and a pair of T62′s in ’07 and ’06, but he’s a much different golfer now and is always a threat to win.

Justin Leonard
Justin has missed 6 of his last 8 cuts,  but has a solid record at this event. He finished 2nd in ’00, T30 in ’01, T16 in ’02 and T11 in ’03. More recently, T55 in ’07. Longshot!

other Nike athletes to choose from :: Jhonattan Vegas and Lucas Glover

Luke Donald
recent finishes – 1st BMW PGA, 2nd Volvo Match Play, T4 Players, T8 Zurich, 2nd Heritage, T4 Masters, T6 WGC Caddy, 1st WGC Match Play
8 straight Top 10′s. Straight fire. I got chills typing his recent results. T14 here in ’09, T6 in ’08. My only worry is travelling from England.

Matt Kuchar
recent finishes – T6 HPBNC, T16 Crowne
Kuchar has made all 13 cuts on Tour this year, with 7 Top 10′s. Kuchar also finished T8 here last year, T5 in ’09, T10 in ’08 and T13 in ’07. Better than most.

Nick Watney – WD Thursday Morning
recent finishes – T8 HPBNC, T4 Players
Watney started the year with 5 straight Top 10′s.  He’s currently on another streak of 2. CUT here last yaer, but T14 in ’09, T26 in ’08 and T41 in ’07.

Hunter Mahan
recent finishes – T10 Crowne, T6 Players, T16 Wells Fargo
Hunter is a big sleeper this week. CUT last year and in ’08, but T14 in ’09. He’s well rested and ready to go!

Others playing well; Steve Stricker, J.B. Holmes, Brian Gay, Rory McIlroy, Steve Marino, Keegan Bradley

Jim Furyk
best finishes – T10 in ’10, 2nd in ’09, T23 in ’07, T18 in ’06, T8 in ’05, T24 in ’03, 1st in ’02, T23 in ’01, T25 in ’00
Insane record here. Coming off of a T31 at Colonial, with three rounds in the 60′s. MC at the Players, but made 7 straight cuts before that.

Justin Rose
best finishes – 1st in ’10, 2nd in ’08, T14 in ’06, T4 in ’04
I was surprised that JRose’s history runs so deep here. He’s shown flashes of brilliance this year, with a nice streak (T5 Transitions, T3 API, T11 Masters) in there. Coming off of a T45 at a windy Las Colinas.

Kenny Perry
best finishes – 1st in ’08 and ’03, T17 in ’10, T27 in ’09, T3 in ’07, T24 in ’05, T6 in ’04, T7 in ’01
Great history last year and really good finish last year, too. He’s coming off a T22 on the Champions Tour, CUT at Colonial before that, T39 at the Players and a T5 on the Champions Tour. Playing well enough to probably contend this week, given his history.

K.J. Choi
best finishes – T13 in ’09, 1st in ’07, T8 in ’05, T5 in ’04, T13 in ’03, T32 in ’02
K.J. crushes it here in odd number years. He’s another great sleeper this week. Sure, he disappointed some of you last week, but he’ll step his game up with some of the best in the world this week (like The Players).

Others with good history; Ernie Els, Fred Couples, Vijay Singh, Jerry Kelly and Ryan Moore

Alan :: Hunter Mahan, Matt Kuchar, Phil Mickelson and Lucas Glover
Bob :: Ryan Palmer, Matt Kuchar, Phil Mickelson and Stewart Cink
Damian :: Hunter Mahan, Matt Kuchar, Rory McIlroy and Stewart Cink

I’d like to take Overton, Donald and Mahan, but there just isn’t enough room. This field is phenomenal.

Other big names in the field :: Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy, Steve Stricker, Bubba Watson, Dustin Johnson, Ernie Els, Robert Karlsson, Martin Laird, Edoardo Molinari, Robert Allenby, Ryan Moore, Rickie Fowler, Hill Haas, Ryan Palmer, Gary Woodland, Sean O’Hair, Bo Van Pelt, Camilo Villegas, Charley Hoffman, Jeff Overton, Webb Simpson, Ricky Barnes, Charles Howell III

Here is the recap from the last event >>

Anthony Kim
Made the cut last week and opened strong. He played consistently, he hits it long and he’s one of the best putters on Tour. He just needs to be accurate off of the tee and he’ll have a shot to win. DNP last year, just missed the cut in ’09 shooting 69-71. T19 here in ’08.

Stephen Ames
Ames is barely missing cuts. 71-74 at Colonial, 77-68 at TPC Sawgrass..

Justin Leonard
He finished T16 in ’09, T19 in ’08, T26 in ’06. Not playing that great though.

Carl Pettersson
T4 in ’08, T19 in’07, T21 in ’06 and a T34 in ’04. Not shabby! He’s actually on 4 straight made cuts; T33 at The Players, T9 Wells Fargo, T40 Zurich Classic, T30 Heritage. Pretty solid.

other Nike athletes to choose from :: Kevin Kisner, Joseph Bramlett

K.J. Choi
recent finishes – 1st Players, T3 Zurich, T8 Masters, T6 API
Last start here in ’07, missed cut. Playing well though!

Sergio Garcia
recent finishes – T16 Crowne Plaza, T12 Players
6 starts on the PGA this year, he’s averaging 19th place and hasn’t finished worse than T35. Money in the bank folks. Sergio won here in 2004. Last start here was T19 in ’07. Needs a big week, too, but pulled out of The Open qualifying because of a finger infection.

Sean O’Hair
recent finishes – T16 Crowne Plaza, T19 Players
He’s not necessarily hot, but his last 3 rounds at Colonial were in the 60’s. He seems to have his form back. At this event he’s finished 25 in ’07, T19 in ’06 and 2nd in ’05.

Charlie Wi
recent finishes – 2nd Crowne Plaza, T41 Players, T16 Zurich
6 straight made cuts, but he was on fire at Colonial. Cut here last yaer after a 69-72, T23 here in ’09, T7 here in ’08. Pretty good stuff. David Toms all over again?

Jason Day
best finishes – 1st in ’10
Day won last year based on recent play, and that was the first time he made the cut at Las Colinas. He’s playing well and was a very popular pick last week. He’ll bounce back this week and should be up there with DJ and Watney.

Dustin Johnson
best finishes – T7 in ’10, T4 in ’09
DJ started May on the European with a T4 a few weeks ago and then a T57 at the Players. However, DJ with a few weeks off is one I may not trust. Last year, he got his good finishes on a hot streak and bounced back from poor finishes. I don’t see that as much this year. Prove me wrong, DJ.

Scott Verplank
best finishes – T5 in ’10, 1st in ’07, T6 in ’05, T14 in ’04, 4th in ’03, 2nd in ’01
Hasn’t missed a cut this year. 2 Top 10′s in his last 4 starts..seems to alternate Top 30′s with  Top 50′s…indicates a good week for Verplank. Well rested, too.

Rory Sabbatini
best finishes – 1st in ’09, T3 in ’07, T14 in ’05, T21 in ’04
He could have made the Hot List this week, actually. His last 3 starts; T16 at Colonial, T26 at The Players, 3rd at Wells Fargo. Has a good history in odd number years, too!

Alan :: Nick Watney, John Senden, Brian Gay and Stephen Ames
Bob :: K.J. Choi, Charlie Wi, Jason Day and Carl Pettersson
Damian :: Nick Watney, Matt Kuchar, Brian Gay and Anthony Kim

Really hard not to take Dustin Johnson, Charlie Wi and Sergio here..but I think Kuchar will walk away with the win. Pettersson is probably the safest Nike pick, if one exists.

Other big names in the field :: Matt Kuchar, Ben Crane, Nick Watney, Brian Gay, Robert Allenby, Marc Leishman, Jeff Overton, Spencer Levin, Vijay Singh, Brandt Snedeker, Jason Dufner, Gary Woodland, Angel Cabrera

Fantasy Four :: Crowne Plaza Invitational

Welcome to Colonial! Tradition lives on these grounds and a champion will rise!

Pretty awesome field this week. That being said, there are 3 guys that initially stand head and shoulders in terms of the ultimate combination; HOT + HISTORY!

Let’s check out these three gems that caught my eye (one of them is even a Nike athlete);

Stewart Cink – coming off T19 at Players, T9 at Wells Fargo, T30 at Heritage
(last 10 appearances at Colonial; 2 Top 10s, 7 Top 25s, 0 MCs, Averaging 21st place)

David Toms – coming off 2nd at Players (including 5 Straight Top25s – with 2 Top 3’s in there)
(last 10 appearances at Colonial; 4 Top 10s, 6 Top 25s, 0 MCs, Averaging 18th place)

Zach Johnson – coming off T12 at Players, T6 at Wells Fargo
(last 5 appearances at Colonial; 2 Top 10s, 3 Top 25s, 0 MCs, Averaging 16th place)

This is Event 3 of Season 2, Month 1 (Month 5 overall). For a refresher on the rules, hit the link — Contest Guidelines and leave your Fantasy Four below (don’t forget your ONE Nike Athlete).

Here is the recap from the last event >>

Stewart Cink
See above.

Stephen Ames
Ames is blazin’ at Colonial. 9 apperances, 3 Top 10’s, 0 MC’s, averaging 29th at the event. JUST missed the cut at TPC Sawgrass with an opening 77, followed by a 68. Great sign for the Canuck.

Justin Leonard
In Leonard’s last 11 appearances here, he’s had 2 Top 10s, 6 Top 25s, 0 MCs averaging 29th place. Coming off of a T57 at TPC, he should make the cut this week.

Anthony Kim
This is probably the week where we all count out AK after last week and the Masters and he comes out and wins the event. Honestly, I would not be surprised. He’s played here in ’07, ’08 and ’08, finished 18th, 40th and 54th.

other Nike athletes to choose from :: Lucas Glover

Jason Day
recent finishes – T6 Players, T9 Heritage, T2 Masters
Pair that with a T4 here in ’09 and you could have your winner.

J.B. Holmes
recent finishes – T6 Players, T9 Wells Fargo, T11 Texas Open
J.B. is hot, too. Two appearances here at Colonial (MCs in ’09 and ’07).

Jason Dufner
recent finishes – T6 Players, T3 Zurich, T14 Heritage
I didn’t know Dufner was playing this week. He only has 1 MC all year in his 11 events. Two appearances here with a T59 in ’09 and MC in ‘07

Matt Jones
recent finishes – T19 Players, T21 Wells Fargo, T6 Zurich
Solid finishes for Matt Jones. He also had a T13 here last year. SLEEPER ALERT.

Of course, Toms and ZJ could go here, too.

Zach Johnson
best finishes – 1st in ’10, T9 in ‘09
See above.

David Toms
best finishes – T2 in ’02, T3 in ’05, T4 in ’00, T8 in ’01, T13 in ‘10
See above.

Corey Pavin
best finishes – 1st in ’96 and ’85, 2nd in ’90 and ’92, 7th in ‘10
Sure, Pavin has old history, but he also has 3 straight top 25’s here in ’10, ’09 and ’08. Coming off of a T45 at TPC. SLEEPER ALERT!

Kenny Perry
best finishes – 1st in ’05 and ’03, 2nd in ’02, T22 in ‘10
Last 11 appearances, only 1 MC, averaging 28th place. Coming off of a T39 at TPC.

Alan :: Jason Day, Kevin Na, Hunter Mahan and Stephen Ames
Bob :: David Toms, Jason Day, Zach Johnson and Stewart Cink
Damian :: Ben Crane, Steve Marino, Matt Kuchar and Stewart Cink

I almost took Jeff Overton over Matt Kuchar…sure, Kuchar just came off of a T54, but he’s going to bounce back! I actually like Sergio this week. He was on fire in his final round at Sawgrass and is a former winner at Colonial.
A grown-man dream team would be Cink, Toms, ZJ and Pavin.
A modern dream team would probably be Fowler, Day, Kuchar and AK.

Other big names in the field :: Matt Kuchar, Jim Furyk, Hunter Mahan, Adam Scott, Jason Day, Robert Karlsson, Martin Laird, Ben Crane, Brandt Snedeker, Rickie Fowler, Bill Haas, Rory Sabbatini, Mark Wilson, Jeff Overton, Sean O’Hair, Kevin Na, Angel Cabrera, Sergio Garcia, Brian Gay, Spencer Levin

Fantasy Four :: The Players Championship

I’m not a player, I just crush a lot. One thing that bugs me is that Westwood and McIlroy aren’t playing. Other than that, the field is top-notch..but not as good as WGC or Majors.

This is the 1 year anniversary of the NG Nation Fantasy Four! We started this contest one year ago! We’ve already given away multiple Nike ONE Vapor Speeds, a bunch of Nike Golf shoes in the Fall Contest and a VR Tour STR8-FIT driver along with a Nike SQ Machspeed Black driver. Not too, shabby. Let’s show up big, for the 1 -year anniversary.

Since then; myself, Alan, Lendell, no3putt, Courtney Zylstra and Chris Wang still remain! Thanks for staying with us everyone! (take a look at the original post)

One thing of note;

2010 – Tim Clark won (finished T9 in 2009)
2009 – Henrik Stenson won (finished T10 in 2008)
2008 – Sergio Garcia won (finished 2nd in 2007)
2007 – Phil Mickelson won (finished T14 in 2006)

I’ll let that speak for itself.

This is Event 2 of Season 2, Month 1 (Month 5 overall). For a refresher on the rules, hit the link — Contest Guidelines and leave your Fantasy Four below (don’t forget your ONE Nike Athlete).

Here is the recap from Event 1 >>

Lucas Glover
G’Lover should be a popular pick this week, as he won last week and finished 3rd here last year.

Tiger Woods
I honestly didn’t think Tiger would play this week after he WD from the Wells Fargo. Tiger doesn’t peak for the Players, but he still has good results. Tiger was having a solid round last year, but WD through the final round. If Tiger shot 70 or 71 (like his previous 3 rounds) he’d have a Top 25. Finished solo 8th in 2009, DNP in 2008, T37 in ’07. I think it would still be a good win for Tiger. Won in 2001.

Francesco Molinari
Solo 9th last year. He fits the bill for the trend above. Missed the cut at the Masters and Heritage, but has the game with his WGC win and a T3 at the WGC Cadillac. 9th here last year is pretty good too.

Stewart Cink
Coming off of a T9 and 9 of 10 made cuts, Cink is always a threat to contend at events like this. T3 here in 2007. Just missed the cut last year, MDF in 2009, T21 in ’08.

I’m just gonna mention Stephen Ames. Won here in 2006, 5th in 2008.

I need to say something about Charl Schwartzel, too. After winning the Masters, he finished T11 in Malaysia. He’s hot and I think he’ll get a Top 10.

other Nike athletes to choose from :: Paul Casey, Anthony Kim, Justin Leonard, Jhonattan Vegas

10 to choose from this week. (would have been 11, but Lovemark is injured)

Luke Donald
recent finishes – T8 Zurich, 2nd Heritage, T4 Masters, T6 WGC Caddy, T10 Honda Classic, 1st WGC Match Play
Hotter than my oven. T26 last year, T37 in ’09, T27 in ’08, T16 in ’07, CUT in ’06, T2 in ’05. Gotta be worth a shot. I just don’t like his history.

Kevin Na
recent finishes – 5th Wells Fargo, T9 Heritage
Since blowing up at the Texas Open, Na is out to prove himself. CUT here last year, but T3 in ’09. GOtta like that.

K.J. Choi
recent finishes – T3 Zurich, T8 Masters, T6 API
Choi is super hot and rested. T34 last year, MDF in 09, CUT in ’08, T23 in ’07. I think he’s worth a shot since he’s playing so well.

Webb Simpson
recent finishes – T21 Wells Fargo, 2nd Zurich, T14 Heritage, T16 Houston
Webb is playing well and finished with a 69 a the Wells Fargo. Hasn’t made a cut here though.

Holmes and Stricker could probably go here too.  Same with Kevin Na I can’t list them all!

HISTORY STAT OF THE WEEK :: see the above winners

Phil Mickelson
best finishes – T17 in ’10, T21 in ’08, 1st in ’07, T14 in ’06, T3 in ’04
Coming off of a quiet T9 at the Wells Fargo, and a T27 at the Masters before that and a win the week before that. Can’t be discounted and you also can’t predict when Phil will win.

Ben Crane
best finishes – T4 in ’10, T5 in ’09, T6 in ’08
Coming off of a T6 and T20. I wouldn’t be surprised if he won this week.

Tim Clark
best finishes – 1st in ’10, T9 in ’09, T21 in ’03
I think he’s forced his starts this year and still isn’t healthy.

Davis Love III
best finishes – T4 in ’10, 1st in ’94 and ’03
Coming off of a T16 last week. Don’t forget about him.

Alan :: Adam Scott, Ben Crane, Bill Haas and Tiger Woods
Bob :: Luke Donald, Phil Mickelson, Stewart Cink and Tiger Woods
Damian :: Luke Donald, Matt Kuchar, Steve Stricker and Anthony Kim

I really like Poulter and Fisher this week. Heck, I really think Crane and Na are big sleepers this week. I hate to ditch Watney and Mahan, too. Adam Scott is a good look, too.

I think the most popular Fantasy Four will be :: too hard to tell this week… Phil…Donald..Kuchar..Glover?! We’ll see

Other big names in the field :: Martin Kaymer, Adam Scott, Dustin Johnson, Jason Day, Bubba Watson, Rickie Fowler, Mark Wilson, Edoardo Molinari, Ricky Barnes, Charles Howell III, J.B. Holmes, Jeff Overton, Padraig Harrington, Steve Marino, Sergio Garcia, Marc Leishman, Davis Love III, Nick Watney, Hunter Mahan, Graeme McDowell, Ernie Els

Fantasy Four :: Wells Fargo Championship

Hot field. McIlroy, Mickelson, Kaymer, Watney, Mahan, DJ, Bubba, Laird, Rose, Allenby, AK, Fowler. Tiger is injured. Let’s rock!

New season, folks. Points have all reset to zero and you had better start now if you want to win the 2nd SQ Machspeed Black (like first-half winner, M.Murphy).

Anthony Kim

Solid record here. Won in ’08, T7 last year, T5 in ’07. However, coming off two missed cuts at the Masters and Valero Texas Open.

Paul Casey
Casey has one start here and that’s a CUT in 2008. This is a slower start to the year for Casey, but he does have a win this year. Most recently, Casey has a T38 at the Masters. T18 at WGC Caddy and T17 at WGC Match Play. Paul always contends for the best fields and this week should be no different.

Lucas Glover
G’Lover has a great record here and may be worth a shot. T22 here last year, T2 in ’09, T4 in ’06. On a streak of 3 CUT’s, but he should rebound well this week.

Carl Pettersson
CPetts has been the top Nike athlete in the past two events. His record here doesn’t hurt either, as he’s made the cut 4 of the past 5 years, finishing T51, T55, T22 and T38.

other Nike athletes to choose from :: Jhonattan Vegas, Kevin Kisner, Stewart Cink, Joseph Bramlett

Tommy Gainey
recent finishes – T3 Zurich, 3rd Heritage
Super hot, right ladies? 2 appearances here in ’07 and ’08. Cut both times.

Martin Laird
recent finishes – T9 Texas Open, T20 Masters, 1st Arnold Palmer, T5 Transitions, T10 WGC Caddy
Laird is quietly on a ridiculous streak. Cut here last year, T47 in ’09, but he’s definitely worth a chance.

Rory McIlroy
recent finishes – T3 Malaysia, T15 Masters, T10 WGC Caddy
Rory rebounded instantly from his Masters meltdown. He’s also the defending champ here. Definitely looking for some redemption.

Webb Simpson
recent finishes – 2nd Zurich, T14 Heritage, T16 Houston
Playing really well right now. CUT here in ’09 and ’10. Should make the cut, though.

HISTORY STAT OF THE WEEK :: there are only 3 players to have Top 25′s in each of the last 3 events here; Furyk, Mickelson and Mahan.

Phil Mickelson
best finishes – 2nd in ’10, 3rd in ’07 , 5th in ’09 and ’04, 7th in ’05
7 appearances, 6 Top 25′s, 5 Top 10′s. Coming off of a T27 at the Masters and a win the week before that.

Nick Watney
best finishes – 6 starts, 6 made cuts 5 Top 25′s, averaging 23rd place
I’m worried that Watney is cooling off. T20 last week was great though, so I’m staying on this money train.

Jim Furyk
best finishes – 1st in ’06, 2nd in ’05, 7th in ’08 and ’10, 11th in ’09
Furyk is really hot right now. 4 straight Top 25′s, averaging 16th place. His record here is amazing. Could be a good spot for his first win of the season.

Hunter Mahan
best finishes – T7 i n’10, T9 in ’09, T44 in ’07
See the above stat. MC at the Masters, but before that, he had 3 top 10′s in his previous 4 events. Big sleeper this week.

Alan :: Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, Jim Furyk and Paul Casey
Bob :: Martin Kaymer, Phil Mickelson, Jim Furyk and Stewart Cink
Damian :: Rory McIlroy, Hunter Mahan, Nick Watney and Anthony Kim

Hard not to take Phil and Furyk this week, but you have Watney, McIlroy and Kaymer to deal with also. Watch out for DJ, too. Coming off a Top 10 in the European Tour and Bubba has a good record here (22 last year, 2nd in ’09) and he’s coming off of a win.

I think the most popular Fantasy Four will be :: too hard to tell — Watney/Kaymer/Mickelson/Furyk/McIlroy…Casey probably for Nike, but AK has history.

Other big names in the field :: Martin Kaymer, Dustin Johnson, Bubba Watson, Rickie Fowler, Mark Wilson, Edoardo Molinari, Ricky Barnes, Charles Howell III, J.B. Holmes, Jeff Overton, Padraig Harrington, Steve Marino, Sergio Garcia, Marc Leishman, Davis Love III, David Duval
