Most of you have probably already heard the sad news by now, but for those of you who haven’t, Nike is leaving the golf equipment business. They will continue manufacturing their industry-leading footwear and apparel lines, but will cease production of clubs, balls and bags.
I posted on Twitter that I visited Nike Golf WHQ in Portland yesterday morning, and tomorrow I’ll be doing a full post with pics about my visit. But for those of you who have asked me if they mentioned this news, the answer is “no” of course, as this is a major announcement that they wouldn’t mention until it was publicly announced. I heard the news when I landed in Phoenix a few hours ago, the press release came out while I was on the plane. And I’m really bummed, as I know a lot of my fellow Nike Golf fans are also.
I had a great visit yesterday, and as I have since 2009 when I started this site, I still think Nike Golf is a great company that makes great golf equipment. As I’ve said before, everyone I have met from Nike Golf has been not only super-nice, but extremely passionate about the brand.
For those of you who haven’t read it, here is the full press release from nike.com:
