Tiger Woods Collection at Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship

The public got its first look at the new and improved Tiger Woods Collection when Tiger himself teed it up at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship. As I briefly covered the new collection back in October, I can tell you that the TW Collection is so much more advanced from a technology standpoint than previous collections. It may very well be the lightest and most breathable collection of any golf apparel invented.

Here’s a look at what TW wore Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Thursday: Ultra Light Polo – Gym Green. The Ultra-Light Polo weighs a mere 4.7 oz with a self fabric collar and a snap placket. The swoosh is a decal to further reduce the weight of using embroidery.

Friday: Speed Stripe Polo – White. At 4.1 oz, this shirt has a cool gradient look down the middle.

Saturday: Gradient Stripe Polo – Black. At 5.3 oz, this polo has stylish contrasts of grey with a subtle red stripe.

Check back for Sunday’s Red shirt. I think TW will wear the TW Jacquard Polo in Action Red.

UPDATE:

Sunday: Speed Stripe Polo – Red. Well, TW didn’t pull through for the victory on Sunday, but it was a great improvement and a positive sign for what’s to come this season.  Have a look at Tiger’s Sunday kit. Let’s hope we see him in the final pairing more this year.

Nike Golf TW 13 Shoe Available in June 2012

Many fans of Nike Golf footwear have been asking when the Nike TW Nike Free-Inspired prototype shoe that Tiger Woods has been wearing in competition for the last 6 months will be available at retail. Yesterday we got our answer when Nike Golf President Cindy Davis announced on The Golf Channel‘s Golf Central that the shoe will be available in June around the time of the U.S. Open. Confirmed in a tweet from Nike Golf today, the long-anticipated shoe will be called the TW 13, and rumor has it that the price point will be $179.00 with limited quantities available at first launch.

NG Nation Correspondent Jon Robbins got some pics of the shoe at the PGA Merchandise Indoor Show, you can see those in the gallery below (the last photo of the shoes on the green background is from Nike Golf). NGN Correspondent Michael Karamarkovich got pics of the TW13 brochure. those are in the gallery below also. We hope to get an advance preview of the shoe and to bring you an early look at the TW 13 right here on NGN, stay tuned.

Product Review: Nike Golf Belts

The 2012 PGA Merchandise Show is less than a week away, and the eyes of the golf world will be on Orlando, Florida’s Orange County Convention Center to see what new products the golf equipment, footwear, apparel and accessory industries have to offer for 2012. Last year I had the good fortune to spend some time in the Spirit Leatherworks booth, the official licensing partner for Nike Golf and Tiger Woods accessory collections. Nicole Leatherbury from Spirit gave me a tour of their booth, and left me with two belt samples, and mailed me two more after the show. I’ve worn these Nike Golf belts faithfully all year, and here I share with you what I think of them.

LASER ICON RED ENAMEL BUCKLE WITH BLACK BELT
When Nicole first showed me this belt, I wasn’t quite sure it was for me. I’m more of a conservative accessory guy — black and brown belts are the norm for me — and the bold red swoosh on the buckle seemed a little flashy. But after I wore it a few times, I really started to like this belt. The 1.25″ soft Nappa black leather belt has some really cool design details — the red stitching and golf ball dimple pattern are great accents, and the buckle has tiny nike shoes molded into the back that hold the post and belt attachment clip. The belt is very sturdy, comfortable, and obviously very stylish. This progressive belt design has made this conservative belt guy a convert.

SIGNATURE SWOOSH WHITE BELT
This belt also challenged my conservative style — I don’t consider myself young or hip enough to be wearing a white belt. Again, after wearing this belt a few times, I changed my mind about white belts. The 1.5″ white belt is sturdy and comfortable, and the swoosh design cut out of the brushed metal makes for a very stylish design. Several Nike athletes can be seen wearing this classic Nike belt design on tour, as it complements a wide variety of apparel and footwear combinations. I may not be young and hip enough to be wearing this belt, but I like it so much I’m wearing it anyway.

PERFORATED REVERSIBLE BLACK/BROWN BELT
When a box arrived at my door from Spirit Leatherwear, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect after their initial selections for me at the PGA Show. But Nicole did a great job in selecting two belt designs for me that are just my style. The Perforated Reversible Black/Brown belt is an awesome design that gets much use with my wardrobe. The heavy-duty brushed metal swivel buckle makes switching from one color to the other a breeze (the buckle swivels at the base where it meets the belt). The 1.25″ soft, perforated Nappa leather belt is comfortable and breathes well on hot summer days — which we have plenty of here in Phoenix. This belt is also very durable, I’ve worn it several times a week for a year and it shows minimal signs of wear. All in all this is a great belt design that I wear often.

NIKE CASUAL BROWN BELT
The second belt that was in the box was the Nike Casual belt in brown with brass buckle and rivets. This casual belt looks great both on the course and off. The 1.5″ oil-tanned leather belt has brass rivets at the tab by the buckle and at the tip, and the tab has a debossed swoosh on it. The brass buckle has a small, tasteful swoosh on it, and the brass looks great with the brown leather (the belt also comes in black with brushed metal buckle and rivets). The leather belt is not as thick as the other three, so it’s a little more flexible than the others, but it’s plenty durable and has stood up to a year’s use with minimal signs of wear. This belt looks great with jeans as well as golf pants, and it will continue to be an integral accessory in my wardrobe.

I’m really impressed with the belts and accessories Spirit Leatherworks continues to produce for Nike Golf. They offer a wide variety of designs that range from formal to casual, and styles that will please both progressive and conservative tastes. I personally can’t wait to see what Spirit has come up with for 2012 that they will be unveiling at this year’s PGA Merchandise Show.

Nike Introduces the Lunar Ascend Summer Golf Shoe

Nike Lunar Technology Keeps Soaring with the Introduction of the Nike Lunar Ascend

-Nike Golf combines innovative technologies to create the ultimate lightweight summer golf shoe-

Leveraging the success of the Nike Lunar Control men’s golf shoe, Nike Golf is expanding its Lunar offering with the addition of the new Nike Lunar Ascend men’s golf shoe.  Loaded with innovative Nike technology, the Nike Lunar Ascend features Nike’s Hyperfuse construction and Integrated Traction.

Available on January 1, 2012, The Nike Lunar Ascend is engineered with the ingredients of the perfect lightweight and breathable golf shoe that combines stability and the comfort of Lunar cushioning.  To achieve these optimal combinations, Nike Golf collaborated with Nike Inc. to utilize Hyperfuse construction to deliver the perfect summer golf shoe.

An upper construction technique that originated in Nike Basketball, Hyperfuse construction is an innovative multi-layered construction that ensures lightweight support, comfort, breathability and durability.  Hyperfuse is an engineered composite of three different materials: an internal synthetic underlay for structure and support, a performance mesh layer for breathability and a thin TPU durable outer layer for additional protection and support.  The base stability layer and the breathable layer are fused together with the thin TPU skin layer for a no-sew construction.  Hyperfuse construction allows the Nike Lunar Ascend to achieve structure and stability while maintaining lightweight breathability. This Nike innovative technology results in a serious performance golf shoe.

The Nike Lunar Ascend utilizes the Tour-proven Lunarlon foam cushioning paired with an Integrated Traction performance outsole. Integrated Traction is a molded TPU outsole that enhances traction and ground feel while reducing the overall weight of the shoe. The lower profile of the Nike Lunar Ascend increases stability while utilizing Integrated Traction to eliminate spike pressure and maintain traction.  The Integrated Traction outsole allows more flexibility and greater natural motion for the foot.

Developed in Nike’s Innovation Kitchen, Lunarlon cushioning system is another proprietary technology from Nike that offers underfoot comfort, ground feel and stability. The Lunarlon foam midsole is lightweight, durable and highly responsive resulting in a unique combination of cushioning and support.

Packed with golf-specific technology, the Nike Lunar Ascend is the pinnacle lightweight and breathable performance summer golf shoe.

Key Features:

  • Hyperfuse technology combines synthetics, mesh and TPU

Nike Golf Sport Apparel Collection Shakes Up Traditional Golf Style

Nike Golf Shakes Up Traditional Golf Style with the Introduction of the Nike Golf Sport Apparel Collection

-For Spring 2012, Nike Golf enables athletes to show their true colors and play irreverent golf-

To complement Nike Golf’s industry-leading Tour Performance line of apparel, the Nike Golf Sport Collection delivers new style choices.  With bold and statement-making styles, Nike Golf’s Spring 2012 Sport Collection empowers athletes to show their true colors and express themselves both on and off the course through the passion of sport.

Nike Golf apparel exudes high energy, but the 2012 Sport Apparel collection goes further in delivering youthful styling to golfers who want an exuberant, expressive look.  The Sport Collection features new designs for polos, cover-ups, pants, shorts and headwear that represent a vibrant and irreverent passion for golf as a modern and athletic game for all ages and attitudes.

The Sport Collection features playable, technical golf apparel that integrates Dri-FIT and cotton-blend fabrication to keep golfers cool and comfortable.  The materials signal a return to the comfort in performance Dri-FIT blends for a more relaxed and casual attitude, but are still designed and styled to be authentic to golf.  Silhouettes in the Nike Sport Collection are trim and tidy.  With a slightly slimmer fit and cotton-blend fabrics, the Sport Collection styles are bold and stylish.

Color is the noise in the Nike Sport collection with an emphasis on Safety Orange, an iconic Nike staple, in both body colors and details.  Notable among the new releases is the Jersey Swoosh polo (MSRP $75.00) and the Sport Heather Pant (MSRP $110).  The Jersey Swoosh polo has a sleek-fitting cut, a variety of bold seasonal colors and Nike’s patented Dri-FIT technology.  The Sport Heather pant is a new slim-fit cut that uniquely blends classic fashion with modern details for golfers who want to look stylish while maximizing their performance on the course.

“Our Men’s and Women’s Sport Collections provide an exciting new apparel line with a different point of view towards the sport of golf,” said Doug Reed, Global Category Business Director, Nike Golf Apparel and Footwear. “This collection gives consumers an alternate way to enhance their ‘expression of golf attitude and style’ both on and off the golf course.  The Nike Golf Sport Collection gives the athlete a new look and feel for golf apparel that moves beyond the traditional boundaries of golf.”

Nike Notes: Carl Petterson, VR_S, Lunar Controls and Molinari

Hey all, the PGA Tour’s second stop, but first full-field event is under way this week at The Sony Open. The event will mark the first time many pros will use new equipment that they’ve mastered over the break. While Tiger Woods put in the new VR_S forged iron into play at the Emirates Australian Open in Nov 2011, Carl Pettersson is breaking out the VR_S forged iron for this week’s tournament. Posted by Golf WRX, Pettersson’s bag includes a VR_S forged 4-iron (TW used a similar 2-iron). Expect more players on tour this year to incorporate it into their bags.

Also check out the full gallery because you’ll notice at least 5 non-Nike Golf athletes sporting the Lunar Controls.

With new equipment changes this year, it also seems like Francesco Molinari may make the switch to the Vr Limited Edition driver as pointed out in his Twitter feed last night:

Year of the Lunar

Nike Golf really came out with a winner this year with the Lunar Control golf shoe. The original four colorways were all well received in the marketplace, and the limited edition colorways for the four majors were equally impressive. To really sum up my thoughts on the year for Nike Golf’s apparel and footwear I would have to say it was the Year of the Lunar.

The shoe was the most worn on tour by the Nike Athletes and perhaps for the first time, we really saw some traction from non-Nike sponsored players. It was the shoe of choice for Asian Tour player Liang Wen Chong, European Tour player Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano, and PGA Tour player Kevin Chappell. Beyond the Major editions and the retail versions, we also had a chance to see special editions for college teams, and some editions emblazoned with European soccer teams.

Here are some of my favorite ones of the year. Ok, so the Arsenal edition is something I concocted, but it would have been great to see! Enjoy!
