Nike Golf Tour Premium Apparel

This year Nike Golf introduced the Tour Premium apparel line in their new apparel structure along with the Sport, Tour Performance and the Tiger Woods Collection. To me, the Tour Premium line is an evolution of the Tiger Woods Platinum collection which had a cult following. The line, which includes both men’s and women’s wear, incorporates modern cuts with performance fabrics. The real distinguishing quality is in its craftsmanship and tailoring. The men’s apparel, for example, is slimmer and more form fitting, using blacks and grays but pops of bright colors like Spark – a bright yellow/green color. The women’s apparel is very fashionable and like nothing I’ve seen on a golf course.

The collection is driven towards the needs of the fashion conscious, and certainly the addition of Tour Premium apparel to your collection will enable you to look your best on the course. I see it as a great option to have for an on-course business meeting, or at one of the nicer clubs I’ve played. Those who are sartorially inclined in their everyday wear will see this as an extension of their wardrobe.

Here is an example of Charl Schwartzel in the Stripe Polo at the Maybank Malaysian Open. A perfect example of how to wear it.

Some of my favorite Tour Premium men’s pieces include:

Stripe Polo:

Engineered Stripe Polo:

Embossed Textured Polo:

Jersey Polo:

NGNation Lookbook for the 2012 Players Championship

Hey all, The Players Championship is often referred to the fifth major and so I thought I would put together a short lookbook of recommended apparel combinations. The Players logo is blue and yellow but because it was spring I thought I would incorporate different shades of blue. You’ll notice I also used two mono-color combinations because I think it just gives a slimmer silhouette. I also wanted to incorporate apparel from the different collections (Tour Collection + TW, Sport Collection, and Tour Premium).

Have a look and let me know which four you would pick for your scripting.

Product Review: TW Dri-Fit Ultra Light Men’s Golf Pants

There is something to be said about Nike’s relentless pursuit of innovation and performance, and there is no greater accomplishment than what the company did with its new Tiger Woods Collection, under the Tour Performance apparel line.

According to the company, the new apparel focuses on moisture management, cooling, and stretch technologies, and the line provides exceptional Lightweight Performance for golf athletes. But the new TW Dri-Fit Ultra Light pant goes well beyond consumer expectations. Nike Golf has truly set a new benchmark when it comes to performance golf pants with the TW Dri-Fit Ultra Light.

Last week, I was able to get a pair from Golf Coast Pickers who offer the pants for 10% off using the #GCpickers code at check out. Here’s my review of the pants:

Initial impression:

When I opened the package I thought there was no way that a pair of pants could be that light. Made of 95% lightweight polyester and 5% spandex, the pants, well, look like a pair of pants – but have the weight and feel of lightweight tennis shorts. The dark gray color was very versatile, and the screen print swoosh patch on the left thigh was a new styling feature that immediate caught my eye. The notched bottom hem is also very subtle, so as not to look like a pair of bell bottoms. The unwrapping was a great experience and I was ready to test.

Fit:

Nike Golf pants now come with a tag (see pic in gallery) to indicate whether the pants are standard fit, like the TW Ultra Light, or slim fit, like the Modern Tech Pant. At first, I was hoping that the TW Ultra Light would be a slim fit but when trying them on, they were actually very tailored. The only difference is that there is a little more room in the leg from the knee down to the ankle in the standard fit. In the thigh area, the cut and tailoring in the two models are virtually the same.

The pants provide a level of comfort that no other athletic pant has every provided me. The material is actually a four-way stretch Dri-fit material that really makes it impossible to snag, grab, and not move with you. The range of motion it allows is unparalleled.

Style:

New features to the Tiger Woods Collection pants include a new grip in the inside waist band in order to keep your shirt tucked in. It consists of small rubber dots to decrease weight but provide the same grip capabilities. Also, the button is now a snap close and presumably this too reduces weight. It is important to get the size right, because you do not want this snap to come undone during your swing. The v-notch hem is a very good improvement because the notch overlaps itself so its provides a nice lay down effect over your shoes but not so much that it looks like you’re a disco dancer from the 70s (no offense Rory). I like the way the swoosh is on the left thigh to proudly display the brand insignia. The back pockets are plain which is a welcomed change from last year’s Hyperlite pants that had contrast pockets.

Performance:

While I have only worn the pants walking around and hitting some balls outside, I can say that these are a great walking pant for warm temperatures. The stretchiness of the pants makes it feel like you’re not weighed down or uncomfortable, and gives you that athletic feel. While the pants are not water resistant, they do dry easily. I got the bottom wet to test it out, and while it did get wet like any other pant, it dried relatively quickly.

The pants do look great with shoes, as I have demonstrated with my Lunar Control in the gallery. The all white Zoom Trophy I have looks great too with the gray pants, so I would recommend these with a classic performance shoe.

Conclusion:

At its price point (MSRP $125.00), the TW Dri-Fit Ultra Light pant is the most technologically advanced pant in the Nike Golf lineup. But if you are looking for a performance pant, a pant you want to wear when you are in the competitive mindset, then these are for you. Alternatively, they are just great for a spring day when you want to look stylish on the course. I recommend these pants, and hope you will enjoy them as much as I did.

Nike Golf Athletes: What They Will Wear at The Masters

Nike Golf has led the way in ensuring that its athletes look and feel their best, especially in major championships.

For the last 10 years, the global leader in golf apparel has “scripted” its athletes at major championships.  “Scripting” is a process in which the Nike Golf Apparel team works with Nike Golf athletes in mapping out what each athlete will wear during each of their competitive rounds.

“We work with our athletes a year in advance to determine what they will wear in each of the majors,” said Doug Reed, Nike Golf’s Global Category Business Director for Apparel and Footwear.  “We sit down with them, present the upcoming new styles for each season and listen to what the athlete needs as it relates to performance, technology, comfort and style. From there, we collaborate with the athlete to determine what they will wear.”

The Nike Athletes in the field at The Masters include Paul Casey, Kevin Chappell, Stewart Cink, Simon Dyson, Ross Fisher, Lucas Glover, Francesco Molinari, defending champion Charl Schwartzel and Tiger Woods – all will be wearing the newest styles from the 2012 Spring Apparel Collection. These athletes have been scripted with designs that match their style and attitude, utilizing spring’s variety of colors and patterns.

Schwartzel will wear the Tour Premium collection for the first two rounds and switch to the Tour Performance Collection for the weekend.  On Saturday, he will wear the Modern Stripe polo in Prism Blue and the Modern Color Block Polo in Blackened Heather on Sunday to replicate the all-black look from his final round last year.

As part of the Nike Tour Performance line, Woods will wear bold colors, stripes and gradient patterns from the Tiger Woods Collection and bring the latest technology to his Sunday Red with the Nike Ultra Lite Polo (MSRP $90).

Highlights from the Nike Tour Performance line that will be seen at the Masters are the men’s Fractured Jacquard polo (MSRP $70), Stretch UV Stripe Polo (MSRP $70) and the Modern Color Block polo (MSRP $60) in eye-catching spring colors. These polos are constructed of Nike Dri-FIT with UV protection and added stretch to ease the golf swing.

Simon Dyson will be showcasing the Nike Sport Line for the entire week. Nike Golf’s new Sport line features bold and stylish designs with a slim fit.  Highlighting the youthful style of Nike Sport, Dyson will be wearing four distinct looks, including the iconic Nike Sport Colorblock polo (MSRP $65).

To round out the athletes look at Augusta National, a limited edition Lunar Control shoe has been designed to commemorate The Masters tournament. This Nike Limited Edition Lunar Control shoe (MSRP $150) features premium full-grain waterproof leather enhanced with classic brogue details on the vamp and quarter. The Nike Lunarlon cushioning pops in green on the all-white shoe that also includes stealthy Nike Flywire technology. A patent leather Swoosh is outlined in detailed green stitching.

Full Nike Golf Athlete Scripts for the 2012 Masters

Today all Nike Golf Athlete scripts were revealed to the public, and yes, Tiger did approve his scripting.

There are a few familiar themes with this year’s scripting. For example, we’re going to see Stewart Cink in plaid pants on Friday, in a green color similar to the one he wore when he won The Open Championship. Paul Casey is going to be sporting his sleek and stylish look, along with an alternative kit from the Sport collection (which I am really hoping he wears). Lucas Glover in stripes and khakis. Ross Fisher coming out of the gate in black on black. Naturally, Tiger in red on Sunday. Note that TW’s script calls for him wearing the new TW Pant which are awesome. Let’s hope he wears them. And of course Simon Dyson in colorful pants.

Nike Golf Spring 2012 Tour Performance Apparel Line

Nike Golf’s Tour Performance Apparel Line Amplifies Excellence

-The Spring 2012 Tour Performance collection marries style with visible technology to provide every advantage in every condition-

With the relentless pursuit of performance and innovation, Nike Golf maintains the standard of excellence with the introduction of its Tour Performance line for men and women.  A balance of industry-best basic styles and seasonally driven innovations, this line serves as the locker room for the competitive golfer.

Nike Golf’s Tour Performance apparel embodies Nike’s iconic and instantly recognizable performance innovation.  Focusing on moisture management, cooling, and stretch technologies, this line provides exceptional Lightweight Performance for golf athletes.

With a distinct attitude, Nike’s Tour Performance pieces meet consumer insights through relevant product styling and attributes.  The line delivers every advantage in every condition through expanded style choices to match outfits to occasions.

“This line is seriously full of athlete-driven innovation and visible technology– just what Nike is all about,” said Doug Reed, Nike Golf’s Global Category Business Director for Apparel and Footwear.  “It’s performance, amplified”

The new Tour Performance line brings on the heat with Nike energy colors and core Tour block fit.  Branding also remains classic Nike Golf with a small Swoosh on the left sleeve as well as on the back.  The expanded menu of style choices extends Nike Golf’s dominant leadership position as #1 in class innovation and performance.

Highlights from the Nike Tour Performance line are the men’s Fractured Chest Stripe polo (MSRP $70) and the Modern Color Block polo (MSRP $60).  These men’s polos are constructed of Nike Dri-FIT which includes UV protection and added stretch to ease the golf swing.  The Plaid Pant (MSRP $85) and Fashion Plaid Short (MSRP $70) are constructed of Nike Dri-FIT allowing the athlete to not only look good on the course but also feel good in performance fabrics.

For women, the Color Wrap polo (MSRP $70) and the Convertible Skort (MSRP $95) provide women a comfortable, chic and practical outfit for the course.  The Convertible Skort (patent pending) is reversible from a plaid to a solid and comes with a twill short to provide women with three looks in one.

The Nike Tour Performance Apparel line also features the Tiger Woods Collection, representing the “performance modifier” to its core Tour Performance business.  If Nike’s Tour Performance is the “game day” uniform, the Tiger Woods Collection will serve as the “Bowl Day” point of view.

The Tiger Woods Collection brings the best in innovation to meet the needs of the game’s most athletic golfer.  Using Tiger’s insights, Nike set out to create lighter garments with more stretch.  Cutting edge material and garment engineering shaved 20% off the weight of Tiger’s polo and pant combination. This ground-breaking innovation re-engineers the traditional Sunday Red outfit into the Modern Ultra-Light Uniform.

The TW Ultra polo (MSRP $90) highlights the Tiger Woods Collection.  This Dri-FIT polo is extremely lightweight (2.9 oz.) and features a self-fabric perforated collar for added breathability while also reducing weight. The TW Ultra Light pant (MSRP $125) is a Dri-FIT performance pant with uncompromising craftsmanship and tailoring.  Another new element to the Tiger Woods Collection is providing the consumer with the Swoosh on the left chest of the polo and the TW logo on the center back.

The smartly designed Tour Performance line and Tiger Woods Collection stick to Nike’s core advantage of bringing the best innovations to every athlete at every level.
