Winning Apparel: Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods has been back, at least in my opinion, but he finally put it all together on the PGA Tour. He won the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by MasterCard wearing the new Tiger Woods Collection which has some of the lightest weight garments ever in the Nike Golf apparel history.

Have a look at TW’s apparel, then check out the gallery for up close pics. You can get the same apparel that TW wore at Golf Coast Pickers here:

Thursday:  TW Ultra Light Polo (Black)

Friday: TW Ultra Light Stripe (sometimes referenced as Hyperlite Stripe) (white)

Saturday: TW Gradient Stripe Polo (Black)

Sunday: TW Heather Stripe Polo (Action Red)

Nike Apparel in Stores

Hey all, I stepped into New York Golf Center today to check out some goods and the first thing in the store is the new Tiger Woods collection which immediately caught my eye. I haven’t seen the TW apparel since that meeting in New York with Nike, so it was great to see it up close again. Pretty much everything Tiger is wearing on Tour can now be bought in stores, and its the exact shirt from the TW insignia to the swoosh on the chest.

I also love the new sport collection, which Paul Casey wore during last week’s tournament. The shorts and pants are also a big hit, especially the new blue and red colorways of the modern tech slim fit pants.

For shoes, the new Zoom TW is really a great shoe that doesn’t get much coverage since he’s wearing the Free-Inspired Prototype. The Dunks are simply awesome. I took a close up for you all.

One thing that I didn’t capture, which I now regret, are the matching TW pants. These pants are made of a breathable Dri-Fit fabric and the fit is great unlike some of the roomier earlier editions. Also, the swoosh on these pants is the same one on the TW shirts and is featured on the left thigh, as opposed to the back right pocket like other pants.

Have a look and I suggest you check out the goods at your local store.

2012 Spring Men’s Apparel Lookbook

Fingers crossed folks, I am looking to get my first round in since September this week where the forecast has an expected temperature of 68 degrees in NYC (although its 35 today so who knows). Like last year, I have put together my favorite items for the Spring Men’s Collection.

Just to note, Nike releases its seasonal collection periodically throughout the season so some items you see on Tour may not be available yet. As always, this lookbook combines what I think are some of the best outfit combinations from this season’s catalog.

This season, I dedicated a separate page to the revamped Tiger Woods Collection which is, from a technology standpoint, awesome. The line comes pretty much in four colors: Black, Red, Green, and Blue – and I am OK with that because this line is about performance and it certainly does that.

You’ll also see that I incorporated a lot of bold color combinations including red, green, and blue pants into the mix. Colors are really big this season, on and off the course, so it’s no surprise that Nike Golf has led the way on the course.

I also went with all shorts pairings this year. One because the colors are awesome in the new flat front tech line, but also because it gets me thinking about warm weather and playing golf again. I’ve used the TW Free-Inspired Prototype, Dunk, Lunar Control, Tour Premium, Zoom Trophy, Lunar Prevail, Lunar Ascend, and Air Range to pair the outfits with.

Tiger Woods at Honda Classic in Ultra Light Argyle Polo

Tiger dazzled today during Round 4 of the Honda Classic, going low to finish in a tie for second with a round of 62. He wore his trademark black slacks, black Nike Free Prototype TWs, and an Action Red Ultra Light Argyle  polo from the 2012 TW Collection.

I had a chance to check this polo out in September at Nike’s NYC office and it weighs an astonishing 4.7 oz. The hanger had more weight to it! To reach the ultimate weight reduction of this shirt, Nike implemented perforations all over it to allow for breathability, a self-folding collar, and screened on swoosh and TW insignia as opposed to embroidery. They thought of everything!

Nike Notes: Majors Scripting – Jhonattan Vegas

Yes, the first major is still 2 months away, but the Nike Golf apparel folks are hard at work, collaborating with the Nike Golf athletes on their scripting for the 2012 Majors. Earlier this week, Nike Golf posted a picture of Jhonattan Vegas at Nike Headquarters scoping out some new apparel. As we’ve seen this year, the 2012 line is full of color, but also with technology.

As new scripting comes out (including what I have seen of TW’s scripts), I will post them and look forward to your feedback.

John Daly sports more Nike Golf at Qatar Masters

John Daly finished fourth at the Commercialbank Qatar Masters presented by Dolphin Energy last week and he did so wearing some of Nike’s latest apparel. Daly had switched from the Zoom Trophy to the Lunar Control last year and he has apparently developed a liking for the popular shoe.

The two-time major champion, sponsored by Loudmouth Golf, wore 2012 Edition Lunar Controls and the Method putter while sporting a black wind breaker occasionally on windy days. Have a look at some pics:

- Daly with a full-zip windbreaker with contrast zips from the 2012 line.

- Showing off his Method 001 putter with 2012 Edition Lunar Controls in Cyber colorway

Tiger Woods Collection at Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship

The public got its first look at the new and improved Tiger Woods Collection when Tiger himself teed it up at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship. As I briefly covered the new collection back in October, I can tell you that the TW Collection is so much more advanced from a technology standpoint than previous collections. It may very well be the lightest and most breathable collection of any golf apparel invented.

Here’s a look at what TW wore Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Thursday: Ultra Light Polo – Gym Green. The Ultra-Light Polo weighs a mere 4.7 oz with a self fabric collar and a snap placket. The swoosh is a decal to further reduce the weight of using embroidery.

Friday: Speed Stripe Polo – White. At 4.1 oz, this shirt has a cool gradient look down the middle.

Saturday: Gradient Stripe Polo – Black. At 5.3 oz, this polo has stylish contrasts of grey with a subtle red stripe.

Check back for Sunday’s Red shirt. I think TW will wear the TW Jacquard Polo in Action Red.

UPDATE:

Sunday: Speed Stripe Polo – Red. Well, TW didn’t pull through for the victory on Sunday, but it was a great improvement and a positive sign for what’s to come this season.  Have a look at Tiger’s Sunday kit. Let’s hope we see him in the final pairing more this year.

Product Review: Nike Golf Belts

The 2012 PGA Merchandise Show is less than a week away, and the eyes of the golf world will be on Orlando, Florida’s Orange County Convention Center to see what new products the golf equipment, footwear, apparel and accessory industries have to offer for 2012. Last year I had the good fortune to spend some time in the Spirit Leatherworks booth, the official licensing partner for Nike Golf and Tiger Woods accessory collections. Nicole Leatherbury from Spirit gave me a tour of their booth, and left me with two belt samples, and mailed me two more after the show. I’ve worn these Nike Golf belts faithfully all year, and here I share with you what I think of them.

LASER ICON RED ENAMEL BUCKLE WITH BLACK BELT
When Nicole first showed me this belt, I wasn’t quite sure it was for me. I’m more of a conservative accessory guy — black and brown belts are the norm for me — and the bold red swoosh on the buckle seemed a little flashy. But after I wore it a few times, I really started to like this belt. The 1.25″ soft Nappa black leather belt has some really cool design details — the red stitching and golf ball dimple pattern are great accents, and the buckle has tiny nike shoes molded into the back that hold the post and belt attachment clip. The belt is very sturdy, comfortable, and obviously very stylish. This progressive belt design has made this conservative belt guy a convert.

SIGNATURE SWOOSH WHITE BELT
This belt also challenged my conservative style — I don’t consider myself young or hip enough to be wearing a white belt. Again, after wearing this belt a few times, I changed my mind about white belts. The 1.5″ white belt is sturdy and comfortable, and the swoosh design cut out of the brushed metal makes for a very stylish design. Several Nike athletes can be seen wearing this classic Nike belt design on tour, as it complements a wide variety of apparel and footwear combinations. I may not be young and hip enough to be wearing this belt, but I like it so much I’m wearing it anyway.

PERFORATED REVERSIBLE BLACK/BROWN BELT
When a box arrived at my door from Spirit Leatherwear, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect after their initial selections for me at the PGA Show. But Nicole did a great job in selecting two belt designs for me that are just my style. The Perforated Reversible Black/Brown belt is an awesome design that gets much use with my wardrobe. The heavy-duty brushed metal swivel buckle makes switching from one color to the other a breeze (the buckle swivels at the base where it meets the belt). The 1.25″ soft, perforated Nappa leather belt is comfortable and breathes well on hot summer days — which we have plenty of here in Phoenix. This belt is also very durable, I’ve worn it several times a week for a year and it shows minimal signs of wear. All in all this is a great belt design that I wear often.

NIKE CASUAL BROWN BELT
The second belt that was in the box was the Nike Casual belt in brown with brass buckle and rivets. This casual belt looks great both on the course and off. The 1.5″ oil-tanned leather belt has brass rivets at the tab by the buckle and at the tip, and the tab has a debossed swoosh on it. The brass buckle has a small, tasteful swoosh on it, and the brass looks great with the brown leather (the belt also comes in black with brushed metal buckle and rivets). The leather belt is not as thick as the other three, so it’s a little more flexible than the others, but it’s plenty durable and has stood up to a year’s use with minimal signs of wear. This belt looks great with jeans as well as golf pants, and it will continue to be an integral accessory in my wardrobe.

I’m really impressed with the belts and accessories Spirit Leatherworks continues to produce for Nike Golf. They offer a wide variety of designs that range from formal to casual, and styles that will please both progressive and conservative tastes. I personally can’t wait to see what Spirit has come up with for 2012 that they will be unveiling at this year’s PGA Merchandise Show.
